In case you are not aware of what’s going to happen to our taxes in 2012, there are thousands of articles related to this issue. Here’s just one of them:

All State employee pensions are affected, and we’ll most likely see income tax increases. But school porperty taxes will be hit hard. The Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System
(PSERS) website posts the employer (that’s us) tentative contribution for school districts:

In conjunction with its actuaries, the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) has developed tentative projections for the employer contribution rate for the next five years to assist with your budget planning. These tentative projections are based on the actual investment returns that were recently reported for the 2008/2009 fiscal year and potential actuarial experience losses for the 2008/2009 fiscal year.

Official employer contribution rate projections will not be available until the actuarial valuation is completed in December 2009.

The official employer contribution rate for FY 2010/2011 and future rate projections will be available after the PSERS’ Board of Trustees meeting on December 11, 2009 in Harrisburg. Until this time, these figures should be considered to be tentative:

2010-2011 8.40%
2011-2012 10.70%
2012-2013 29.55%
2013-2014 32.45%
2014-2015 33.95%

Allergies

Having recently moved to the area, does anyone know how the area is for people with allergies? My son has been getting a lot of colds and he has bad allergies also. I am just curious if it is coming into allergy season here because that usually amplifies his problems.

In the blog for Part 2 of the SESD Election Wrap - Up episode for Southern York County Podcast, I believe this expresses the two positions within the community on funding schools at SESD. Note the differences in opinions between the panelists in the two episodes mentioned in that entry. I wonder if the new SESD board will give us any insight in the future as to what school of thought prevails on this question of whether the district is spending too much or just the right amount for education? It will be interesting to watch. Enjoy!

Law firm to investigate South Eastern district’s operations

The South Eastern School Board on Thursday hired a Philadelphia law firm to investigate whether the district is operating legally.
In an unanimous vote, the board adopted a resolution to retain the Levin Legal Group to conduct an assessment focusing on the superintendent’s office and administrative staff’s adherence to their responsibilities pursuant to district policy and their job descriptions.

The resolution directs all administrators to cooperate with the law firm by participating in interviews, promptly providing documents as requested and answering questions, either verbally or in writing. Administrators are to consider the investigation a priority, the resolution states.

The board set aside $20,000 to pay for the investigation, expected to last no more than two months, board president Ralph Marston said. Attorney Michael Levin and his partners are considered experts in school law, he added.

Marston declined to say what prompted the board to take such action. He said all nine board members are relatively new to board service, with at most two years’ experience, and none are experts in school law.

“We just want to be sure that everyone is following district policy and we’re running things legally,” he said.

The board is giving the Levin Legal Group the authority to pursue the investigation as it sees fit, Marston said.

“Mr. Levin has free range to investigate. Wherever his investigation takes him, he’s free to go,” Marston said.

I am very disturbed and concerned 2 nights ago i watched a cop steal my neighbors trash off of his front step on garbage day.The next day the cops were at my neighbors house arresting him...The sad part is they found one pipe and that is about it.They continued to harass him.These same cops follow me anywhere i go and sit on my property without permission.They sit at the stop sign at the end of ovelton avenue.They break more laws than they are enforcing.

The stewartstown police act in a completely unconstitutional manner and i am requiring that we release some of the weight and relieve them of some of their boredom and down time.They took 5 police officers all day from 8"30 in the morning to process and book one person and they could not even get the process right.This is an outrage.

To the steawtstown police you will follow and obey the laws of the state and country you are not above it.Nor will the citizens off this town who pay your salaries adhere to your blatant disregard for the laws you are paid to uphold.If you find nothing better to do in this town than harass and find ways to oppress the citizens of this town find new jobs but we will no longer accept your unlawful and unconstitutional ways.
