Are there posted agendas for Council meetings?

Yeah they are all going to be hanging out on street corners singing old Glenn Miller songs!  Those seniors can cause a rukus for sure!  Hey the other option is that all of our mother-in-laws can come and live at our houses! 

Are you sure they won’t be “running amok”??

They’ll have to put up new signs in My Three Sons parking lot to keep the rowdy seniors from “grinding” their wheelchairs on the curbs and having “walker” races…   We’d better request additional police to keep things from getting out of hand!

Good Gravy!! 

I hope when you all are retired, and maybe have lost some of your retirement because you were laid-off, bad investments, whatever, and you Social Security isn’t enough to get by on (please pardon me while I laugh at the thought it will still be around then)...I hope someone builds a NEW moderately priced community for you to live in. 

With the cost of living going up, our taxes through the roof, seniors probably can’t afford the housing in town.  If we don’t give them an affordable place to live, pretty soon you’ll all be complaining that the seniors are ‘hanging around town with nothing to do’

Besides, if it’s going to utilize some abandoned overgrown space, isn’t it somehow beneficial to the community?  Somehow, I doubt we’ll have 4000+ seniors flocking to our area because of the boom in moderately priced housing!! 

The point of my post was to get more info about this type of project and see what other people think. When you come from an area where “low income housing” means section 8, then you can see my concern. From what some of you are saying, it should be an asset to the community. Perhaps they should call it “affordable housing” instead.

Unfortunately they are not, the best way to find out if this will be on the agenda is to keep in touch with the Borough office on the days of Council (1st Monday) and Planning Commission (3rd Tuesdays) meetings.  The office should be able to indicate whether this is slated to be discussed at the meetings or not.

Property that increases our tax base without increasing the strain on our schools is a GREAT ASSET! Not to mention that seniors can remain in their neighborhood rather than move to Shrewsbury, York or Maryland. I hope other developers follow this trend in our district.  The new developments in Delta will bring more children into our distrcit and drive the school taxes even higher.  It just doesn’t seem fair when some townships and boroughs are not adding to the expense with tighter zoning but their residents still have to foot the bill for building in other areas.

If you want to see the same type of development, just ride over to Shrewsbury and check out the Shrewsbury Courtyards - located at the train tracks along Main Street (The area that was at one time known as Hungerford).  The original building was the old wire cloth factory.  It was so successful that a second building was put in and there is a waiting list for seniors to move in to the complex.  (I was going to say project, but we all know the connotation that word has!).  Hogg Construction has built several senior complexes throughout the county as well as lower income housing.  One that comes to mind is located behind the Giant that is behind York VoTech (sorry I never remember the new name of the school).  The senior facility - the Haven at Springwood is the name - is an assisted living facility.  The CDBG program has supplied funding for a number of these facilities.  They are monitored by the York County Planning Commission on a yearly basis - both for maintenance upkeep and for rental guidelines.

Please don’t judge this project before you know what it entails.  Low income senior housing is NOT the same as the “projects” that were built in the 60’s.  Besides why in the world would you fight a plan to get rid of the eyesore that Fypon left on that site?
