Ok, I know it’s late (for me), and I’m tired.  Don’t have enough hours in the day and all that, but right now I’m getting a bit weary of this forum...and I’m the one who created it and supposedly moderates it.  Hmmm...that probably means there are others getting weary of it too, doesn’t it?  What to do?  Tighten down on moderation?  Get others to help moderate so that when I’m “weary” I can just let someone else worry about it?  Shut it down?  No, probably not that.  Maybe some of you have some advice for a tired guy who just turned 50 and feels like he may be getting too old for this!

Since its last iteration SYC Life has 1300+ topics and over 11,000+ replies. Don’t let it go, find an heir. I have seen no other local site like it.

As I am sure others have noticed, there are some passionate issues out there. Maybe the right thing to do is suggest they find another place to discuss their problems if they can’t keep it clean.

This forum is very unique. I would hate to see it go.

Outsource some of the big brother duties Dan, I too would hate to see it go.  I know there are some member/moderators here.....maybe a little heavier hand is needed?

I agree with Chris on this one. Make a few moderators, but def don’t shut it down smile I love coming here daily (quite a few times daily) and reading everything.

In truth I don’t think I could actually bring myself to shut it down...it’s become a part of me, and it wouldn’t seem fair to the many great people who visit and contribute!  Some recent threads though have brought out the worst in a few folks!

That seems to happen on the touchy subjects.  I know I visit daily, sometimes many times.  Some of the posts don’t interest me, especially the name calling mudslinging ones.

But, I vote for keeping it up and running.  And who doesn’t deserve some help?  It’s grown a lot since it’s inception, so it’s reasonable to think that you’d be strapped for time to maintain it.

The difficult thing is that I do want people to discuss both fun things and the tough issues.  That’s part of what being a good community is about.  We can disagree without having to sling mud at others or each other.  Anonymity contributes to this, but it also allows the more timid to contribute.  In past areas of disagreement I’ve been impressed that those who were representing specific organizations seemed for the most part to keep that in the open, for example Alex with SRACA and Marge with SETRC (neither of whom I’m aware of knowing personally).  I’ve not seen that kind of openness in the current hot topic, yet deception is shaky grounds on which to build cooperation.

Anyway, I do need help with moderation and will start a new thread on that.  Thanks for your feedback everyone...I really shouldn’t post when when it’s my bedtime!
