Not sure if it was the wonderful warmth of the sunshine this week or the thread about indoor swimming pools in the area, but I think it is about time to start shopping for a reputable pool company four our inground pool.  We looked into Foxx pools in York last summer, they seem like a great company and seem to have high quality products, and most importantly an attentive staff.  I searched on old threads and the most recent was 2006 and only mentioned Foxx pools.  Are there any other companies in the area that I should check out?
I also saw an old thread about fence height around a pool.....
“Every outdoor swimming pool must conform to all applicable requirements of State law and in addition must be completely surrounded by a fence or wall not less than four (4) feet in height, which shall be so constructed as not to have openings, holes or gaps larger than six (6) inches in any dimension; and if a picket fence is erected or maintained, the horizontal or vertical dimension of space between pickets shall not exceed six (6) inches.  All gates or doors opening through such enclosure shall be equipped with a self-closing and self-latching device for keeping the gate securely closed at all times when not in actual use, except that the door of any dwelling which forms a part of the enclosure need not so be equipped.  The water line must be at least ten (10) feet from the property line.  A pool must be located in the rear yard.”
We have a 4 foot fence around the backyard, but it is split rail with “chicken wire” like material attached with gaps less than 6 inches in any direction.  Does that count or do I need to plan a fence into my budget?  I am going to have to work on the gate situation though.
Is there an borough or county inspector that I need to call or is this all on the honor system?

If you live in Stewartstown Borough, the inspector can tell you what the necessary requirements including access and setbacks.  We got ours through Van Dorn in Shrewsbury.  It has been pretty good.

I got my above ground pool at Artesian Factory Outlet in York.  I do not know if they deal w/inground or not. You do need to go to Mike Lee’s office to see about the permits and they need to see where your going to put it etc.,etc,.
Inspections and permits are required.

If you live in Hopewell, you will need to call Mike Lee’s office for details on the fencing and the siting of the pool.  You DO need permits to install the pool.

If you live in Stewartstown, you will need to call the Borough Office to find out who the new inspector is and find out the details necessary to get the permits you need.

If you do a search, there are older threads here about pools. 

I remember one said an above-ground pool doesn’t add to your property taxes, while an in-the-ground pool does.

I had mine installed April of 06’ by Buchmeyers pools on rt. 30 in York, very pleased. I live in the Boro of Stewartstown. I guess Jonathan isn’t the inspector anymore? Well I rules i got where the following....

15 from sides, 25 from rear or front
if your sides are not 4 feet above the ground them you will need a fence, only in York City you need a fence no matter what!!
eletrical use 20 amp GFI romex wire rated outdoors use buried 3 feet! That is PA> Code don’t go by federal code.
I rented a trencher from Tru-Value in Shrewsbury
I did the electrical part, also install a 4"x4" post with outside rated outlet box with switch.
I roughed measured out where about i wanted to put the pool. I stuck a stake in about the middle and measured out 18’ for my 18’ above ground pool . I placed 4 stakes out from the middle at 9’ for my total diameter 18’.
I went to the Boro office and applied for my permit. about $100 if i remember, I have it my shed. Takes about 2 to 3 weeks for them to come out. After my pool was in I spent about $500 on all the eletrical and post and trencher rental.

When you’re buying a pool, the best time to buy one (at least an above ground pool,) is when there is snow and ice.  We got ours for less than half price.
