Not necessarily. I smoked for 15 years (just celebrated 5 yrs smoke free in Jan!) and even when I smoked, I never smoked in the house, or when other people were eating. Personally, even when I did smoke, I couldn’t stand people smoking while I was eating, so we would generally sit in non-smoking anyway.
Now here is a different perspective. I salute you for giving the habit up by the way. Anyway, your position on where you smoked, and how consious you were of how it effected others was good. But the issue at hand is rather one that would have required your compliance to these smoking/nonsmoking standards wether you would have done them voluntarily or not.
I had a comment about the California ban, but lost it when I started thinking about tofu fartin, granola eatin, tree huggin, sandal wearin beatniks. At that point my train of thought left the station. It wont be back until later in the afternoon....
You, like, forgot smoking mass amounts of marijuana under doctor’s orders, saving every animal and insect known to man and protesting all wars, amongst your Californian stereotypes
Thats not extreme north! I thought you might have meant YReka. My wife was born in Eureka, and she still has family in the Napa area. I wasted a lot of my youth in the North Bay area.
But if you simply say Northern CA, everyone assumes you’re from the San Francisco Napa Valley area. Not many people, including Californians, are aware 1/3 of the state exists north of San Fran

True, and I understand your point. And I agree. Telling business owners that they can’t allow something that’s legal (and a tax collection if I’ve ever seen one) is a stretch and I don’t necessarily agree with it. I think it should be left up to the business owners. Seriously, if you don’t like somewhere because it’s smoky, don’t go!
I was also remembering when I worked in Md and they banned smoking in the workplace (which was the airport terminal). Everyone complained about walking outside, but it didn’t bother me, since I’d already done it.
NYC banned smoking in restaurants and bars a couple of years ago, over the protests of the owners, but it hasn’t hurt their business. They can provide outside seating (in warm weather) for smokers if they choose to do so.
Remember too, that the government banned smoking in all government buildings more than 20 years ago and there hasn’t been a mad rush to take away other “liberties” since then.
Congratulations to all of you who had the strength to kick that stinky habit.
As to the government making rules about it, I think it’s amazing that for all these years they’ve allowed people to take leaves and paper into public places and light them on fire.
