Does anyone know of a good tailor in the area?

My husband took his suits to the cleaners (the one by WalMart) and one came back with a small hole in the upper sleeve. The people there had a fit when he took it back there and complained. He said he just wanted it fixed. They were yelling and carrying on but he couldn’t understand, for obvious reasons, what they were saying, but they kept saying it was moths. Yea, right. It looks like a burn hole. I just love the way people stand by their products or business. Doesn’t anyone ‘own’ their mistakes anymore?

Anyway, we need a tailor to hopefully fix it before May. Any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I do not know of a good tailor, but I sort of remember one mentioned on another thread.  I stopped going to that drycleaner because I left a pair of pants to be hemmed.  They lost the pants.  When I asked them to find the pants, suddenly no one could understand me… and I certainly could not understand them (and yes, I had my receipt).  I had to go back two more times until the one gentlemen was there (who is a very nice person) who could understand me.  He found the pants, unhemmed, and I just took them back.  I’m still wearing them unhemmed.  :-(

Yea, sounds like the same dry cleaner to me. Thanks for your input. Hopefully SOMEONE out there uses a tailor.....

Actually, I do have a suggestion - try one of the formal wear places around town - even Mens Wearhouse in York - maybe you can get a name of a tailor through them - or maybe they do outside work.

I’ve had Tall & Big Men shops do alterations before. Its free if you are buying a garment that needs a nip or tuck here but a fee for walk ins.

I took a leather jacket to the one by Walmart.  He said that he sent those out and it would take 2 weeks.  I returned 2 weeks later and he said 1 more week.  Well.........this happened about 4 more times!

I went in on about the 4th trip and finally threw a fit.  He said the jacket was in Pittsburgh.  I told I did not care where it was, I just wanted it here.  Now the funny part......he picks up the phone and dials a number.  He acts like someone on the other end answers and says, “Hello, Pittsburgh.  Where’s man’s jacket? Oh, OK it be here Tuesday, bye.” I asked if he was serious and he said it would be there Tuesday.  Tuesday came and still no jacket.  He handed me the phone and told me to call Pittsburgh myself.  I told him that if I did not have my jacket back by that Friday I would take him to small claims court.  In a miracle.....the jacket arrived on that Friday!

I have to agree with Mark - I took a dress there to have a new zipper put in it and was quoted $8.00.  They even wrote it on my claim ticket.  When I went to get the dress, it was done, and the seamstress did a very good job; however, they said it was $20.00.  When I questioned this, the cashier said the seamstress sets her own rates and someone else must have quoted me the original price.  Like Mark, I threatened to go to the Attorney General Consumer Protection Division.  The cashier gave it to me for $8.00, but I have never been back there.

Gotcha, that’s what I thought.  I’ve never been to them, so I probably won’t ever bother now.

I have been to Hanna’s a couple of times (Next to Rita’s).  I really don’t own much that requires dry cleaning.  I don’t have to dress up for work anymore, so no dress clothes to worry about.

Hanna’s is more than a dry cleaner....and American family owned and operated for many years. They have a wonderful Tailor and sewing department. Recommend them highly for both sewing needs and dry cleaning!!! They are right next to Rita’s
