Once again, I am not interested in the broad brush strokes that occur. 

I am not a person who believes that a government run agency should make decisions for my kids. 

I guess I am the only person that sees this as a contradiction.  Anyway, the line is there.  The principal was rude.  And you sent your kids to private school.  Bravo for you.  I am happy that you found a solution that works for you and your family.  But please bear in mind, that the people making these decisions at the school have many years experience with many, many kids.  Maybe, just maybe, they have a clue of what they are doing, and thier experience shouldnt be tossed aside simply because it doesnt agree with what you believe.

The cut off ages are set locally.  The reason for the steadily advancing cutoff date is the large volume of evidence that 4 year olds, particularly boys, are not quite ready for kindegarten.  That is not to say that all of them are not ready.  There certainly are those that are.  But a lot of kids that age will struggle through kindegarten and continue to struggle through school, whereas if they had been given a year to mature, they likely would have been more confident and capable, and managed school successfully. 
A lot of people seem to think of Kindegarten as the end of paying for daycare, and regardless of the readiness of thier child, they insist that the kid go anyway.

Once again, I am not interested in the broad brush strokes that occur.  I feel that every child is different, and my experience did end up positive, but the experience was not a good one.  I am not a person who believes that a government run agency should make decisions for my kids.  I was treated rudely and talk to as if someone who did not know my child was telling me what was best for her.  So, if you feel I’m bashing, you just don’t get it.  I felt it was a clue to what was to come, so I did WHAT WAS BEST FOR MY FAMILY, which is the only thing I am recommending.  Please remember that people ask for opinions or experiences, that is what they want.

YOU GO GIRL (BEVY JEAN)! I agree if you don’t look out what is best for your family probably no one else will! Every child is different and unfortunately some of the wonderful rules in life that we make don’t take things like this into account and why YOU as a good parent look out for the best interest of your child.

Yes, people making the decisions at the schools have much experience but what is good for the majority does not apply to all children and this is what I think Bevy Jean was trying to say. Parents probably know their children better than anyone else and what limitations or ability they have to succeed, for instance if entering Kindergarden past the cutoff date. My son was born in May so I guess I don’t have to worry about the cutoff date but I’m sure there are plenty of parents who do.

This part right here is the exception, not the rule.  So very many people send thier children to school and then abdicate all responsibility for the education, both intellectual and moral.  While this community is better than a lot of school districts, there are still those for whom the school is a babysitter.

I don’t see how that is a contridiction, I don’t like how things are painted with broad brush strokes, and I don’t like having a government agency make decisions for my kids that are based on broad brush strokes.  C- you obviously see things differently than me.  They do have experience with many many kids, for many years, but I prefer a smaller environment with the same experience, where I feel like I have more imput, that’s all.

Now the bad part of all of this is, I may not have a choice shortly!  Everything’s going up except my paycheck!!

I think you made the right decision for your kids then.  And the cost of things is killing everyone but the government.  Here is a thought.  Considering that a great percentage of the raw materials that go into an army are petroleum based, I cant help but wonder how much the cost of fighting these wars is going to increase.  And, consequently, how we will pay for them.

I know, it really seems that things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better, and I just started feeling that way.  I’ve been trying to be positive on the economy, but things are beginning to snowball.
