I wish there were a viable candidate outside of McCain, but it is not going to happen.  Ron Paul will only act as a spoiler like Ross Perot did in 1992.  Paul has some ideas that really strike home and then he sort of goes off on a tangent ranting an raving about things and it pushes me away from him.  It is time for both he and Hillary to step aside and let McCain and Obama decide the thing.

ron paul was on wbal last week, I believe he was speaking that night at Goucher College.  He never got the exposure he needed to get the support he would need to win.  He did mention though that he was pleased with the support he did get - meaning that it illustrated the discontent of voters overall and the lack of choices they had in their elections.  He didn’t have the money power to go against the big guns either..........the amount of money being spent on campaigns is mind boggling this time around.....frankly, with the state of the economy right now, I find it sickening.

I like what Ron Paul has to say, problem is, I think he would shake things up too much so the good old boys in washington would never let him get in there.

Lets face it.  In the USA we have a revolution every four years.  This revolution is funded by those with money for the express purpose of helping those with money keep more of it.  How much will this election end up costing?

i definitely don’t agreee with that… changing from one side of the same coin to the other every four years is just plain bullls**t.

we haven’t had a revolution for hundreds of years.
and money is one large reason there hasn’t beeen one here.

a revolution neeeds to happpen, but it wouldn’t be the answer.
it’s tooo far gone to do any goood. it would actuallly do more bad than goood in the end

I’d like to think it matters who will win the presidency.....that they’ll change things, keep their promises, use some common sense in doing their job....I remain positive but fear nothing will change.  Things will change when the person who wins the presidency has integrity, character, honor, common sense.....and the strength to not only back up what they promised on the campaign trail for the voters but to do the right thing, regardless of party affiliation, money, lobbyists......you know, what they need to get voted in to begin with

Sadly, they spend how long campaigning to all of us voters outside the beltway, but once they pass the oval office threshold, what is outside the beltway matters no more, it’s all about the game, and the players inside.  It’s the game that’s broken, and the game corrupts the players, even the noble and idealistic.  Does anyone believe any of it anymore?  The campaign promises....we’ll fix immigration, tough on terror, no pork, no more taxes, the “we’re real people like you” speeches.  No, most of us know exactly what it’s all about....it’s all become quite the high-priced puppet show.

I have to admit, watching Clinton and Obama through this reminds me of two junkyard dogs tied together at the leg.....all they have to do to escape (WIN THE ELECTION) and gain freedom is chew through the rope together (JOIN FORCES) but they are too proud and angry, so they decide to chew through each others legs instead.

I just don’t think a President can initiate much change because of the Senate and the House. Until we get term limits on those guys, the same stuff will continue to happen regardless of who is in office. I liked what Ron Paul had to say, but being an outsider, he would’ve gotten no cooperation from the Senate, so they would still keep things the same as it has always been.

If Ron runs as an independent, I’ll probably vote for him. Our other choices are just pathetic.

If he runs as an independent that would be my reason NOT to vote for him.  If you lose the game with the rules that were set out then you abide by the rules and the game is over for you.  Just like Clinton wanting to count the delegates in FLA and Michigan after she agreed that they would not be counted because they changed the primary dates.  Politicians live by changing rules as they see fit as they go along and we are the ones that usually suffer or pay.  Mostly pay.

You mean the rules created by the Republicans & Democrats that ensure that 3rd parties will never be able to compete on an even playing field and so ensure their own power?

I think I agree with Mark but my thought is Ron Paul’s NOT an independent.  He’s a Republican that will use the independent ticket if (well when) he fails on his own ticket.  Obviously, people didn’t vote for him to give him the Republican nomination, how does he think it will work for him as an independent?

Although, it did work for Joe Lieberman, I don’t agree with it.  And Ralph Nader....if you’ve proven that many times that you’re not going to be elected - let it go!

Until there’s a “viable” independent candidate that can carry some mainstream fervor and not just be “who else is that on the ballot?” to most people, you’ve got a snowballs chance in you-know-where of anyone other than a Dem/Rep making it to the White House.
