Just took my son there for the afternoon. It was pretty nice, we even walked the trail. On the trail we saw: a groundhog, alot of birds (two of them even started to dive bomb us), a deer carcass, and about a 1,000 ant hills. We had fun on the playground, though my son (5 yrs old) was bummed out that there were no monkey bars, but he made do and had a blast. Have to admit though, the baseball field looks kinda like a dump (yes I know its built on a dump). The outfield is very well kept, but the infield is a disaster. Guess it doesn’t get used much.
I would lke to see some benches sitting around the play area and maybe one or two picnic tables. And maybe a few benches scattered throughout the trail.
The portapot needs to be bolted down as well, as it was on its side. Two guys were out there doing work today, but I guess it isn’t their job to upright the potty.
All in all it was a fun time and the start of a great place!
I frequently take my 3 year old. I love the trail since he can run ahead and my husband and I don’t have to worry about cars, bikes, etc. I also love the playground though I do think it’s geared more for the little guys.
I like the shaded pavillion so close to the play areas, very few parks in our area provide shade close to the play structures. I look forward to having some picnic tables and benches.
The portapot bugs me. I’m glad it’s there, but I do think they easily could have found a better spot to place it where it wouldn’t intrude on the beautiful views.
Overall I’m completely thrilled with the complex. I can’t wait for the stargazing area to be finished. Our property is heavily wooded so it would be nice to see the whole sky during the August meteor showers without worrying we’re making some farmer rightfully mad by trespassing on his property

I thought the samething, maybe put them behind the playground closer to the other fenced in area in the back.
The portable toilet was bolted down. It was reported by the staff at the Township building and was up righted by one of them. Some degenerates decided to rock the unit breaking it from the bolts and turned it over. Our State Police only can give reasons on why they cannot patrol the park instead of actually doing the patrol. Every one reading this should call the State Police and request they patrol this park to keep it from being destroyed by people who do not appreciate what has been given to them.
Someone mentioned to me (since I am new to the area) that there is a newer park/playground in the local Stewartstown area that was built on top of a dump, or former something of the like. Please confirm if anyone knows if this is relevant. The lady I heard this from lived in Stewartstown for 20 years, I just moved here in December. Thanks, KATY

Yep its on top of a dump Take Plank Rd towards Shrewsbury and it will be on you right hand side, big white sign marking it.

Something seems incredibly wrong with that...putting a park/playground over a dump. Has the soil been tested? How long ago was the dump an active dump ground? v/r, KATY
Please correct me but it has been over 10 years since the dump was used. Everything has been done to make this a recreation center for our children. I for one can’t wait for the fields to open up in September so soccer as well as other sports can use the field. It looks great and needs just a couple more months for the grass to really take root before the kids can play on it.
I would believe the reason the infield of the baseball diamond looks rough is because it just needs to be dragged. This won’t happen till the field is usable.
I am glad to see that the Solid Waste Authority put money into this land for our use and can’t wait to see my children play ball out there.
Katy, dumps are reclaimed most often for recreation or housing. Not saying I agree with it but it is standard practice. This one was just released in the past few years for re-use. There were issues in the past with this facility, mainly in the low-level waste area that is still not reclaimed. That thing leaked and ruined the wells of many homes along Plank Rd.
There are always the bad ones out there though… Love Canal is a good example. Plenty of sites out there that used to be industrial as well that are now used for commercial, recreation, residential, etc. If done properly, you can really clean them up.
I would never live on one knowingly though. I don’t trust the PA Department of Environmental Protection or the EPA that much. Heck, PA DEP thinks that municipal sludge is perfectly safe to dump on fields surrounding our wells or use it to refill mines in North Central PA where it leaches into the ground water and eventually the Susquehanna. Even when faced with overwhelming evidence of harm they turn a blind eye.
Katy, I’m fairly anal about all things environmental. I was a bit skeeved about a park on a dump but after doing some research, talking to people and also submitting some air and soil samples to an independent test facility and paying out of pocket for the results (I SAID I was anal:red: ) I feel VERY comfortable using the park.
