To tack on to the other thread that somehow went from being about the tax increase to the football team I am curious about something. I have been reading this forum for a couple of months now and there seem to be a lot of informed people on here regarding the school district and how things work over there even though there are differing opinions. My question is this, how can the district justify spending $200,000.00 on adding another field and two new sports but they always say there is no money to put lights on the current field? Can anyone answer that one for me?

I do not believe that the new field was approved, lacrosse will be playing on the existing football field.
But I see your point, other sports have been asking for differant things for years. That is one reason why the booster club was formed, to try to bridge the gap between what teams want/need and what the district is willing to pay for.

My understanding is that it was approved along with the addition of Jr. High Cheerleading, Jr. High Track and Girls Lacrosse. I’m pretty sure that the Girls Soccer team plays on the football field, but I could be wrong about that.

If a 160k field was approved that is a real problem for me. I’m still trying to figure out what that need 35k for starting the team.

I agree. IF they really need to spend the money on a field, use the $ to redo one of the existing fields and make it for mulitple use so that more than 1 sport can benefit.

What about Business Sponsorship in regards to these high priced items?
I’m not sure if I got my facts straight, but I overheard someone saying the school(KD) turned down Coca-Cola sponsorship for lights(maybe scoreboard) for the football field.

I believe the girls’ soccer team does play on the football field.

I heard Coca Cola offered to sponsor the scoreboard and the “old” school board rejected the offer. South Eastern Tax Reform Coalition (setrc) has made the suggestion about business sponsorships in the past and it was ignored. Maybe the new Board members will reconsider it.

Though when we put in a pool, it will probably cost 3x as much as a normal contract, and we’ll pay it!! Because we have such a complex to compete with all the districts around us even though they have a much larger tax base, but it sure will make 40 students FEEEEEEEEEEEELL good!

coke sponsoring a scoreboard is nothing. the worst part is they put coke on the scoreboard, because they bought it but you have to sign a contract to sell strictly coke products at all you school district events. i also believe they wanted coke machines put in the high school for student use during lunches and for afterschool sports. in those contracts they soak you pretty good for the sodait costs a school like 10 bucks a case for cans and 15 bucks a case for bottles then you try to sell it and make some money off it. now your paying 2 bucks for a bottle of soda. your better off buying your score board and picking up soda at walmart for $6 a case

Do you know the reason they rejected it? Has the new school board discussed it?
