It is interesting to me that none of you have brought up the parking in front of the postoffice. Which you can get a ticket for and I see people doing it all of the time even when the 1st avialble spot after the sign is open!! That is lazy and plain stupid!
The people making a right on to Main street have to go way over in to the other lane when they turn when there is a car parked there

I had to throw this out to the crowd.  Not making any judgements or anything, just an observation.  Went to Saubels the other day and there was an ambulance parked between Saubels and Rite Aid in the fire lane.  After I picked up a few things I ended up in line behind a couple of member of the fire department who were buying groceries.  I immediately thought of this thread.  Again, not making judgements or looking to get anyone in trouble, just thought it might make for some fun discussion.  My take on it is that they probably park there so they can make a quick exit should they get a call.

Otter you are correct. It is so we can get out of there quickly and in a safer manner. I have had numerous bad experiences parking in the lot. People park too close to the doors to get in safely. Some park in a manner that blocks our ability to turn out of spaces safely. The ambulance does not turn well out of the lanes in the lot with a lot of cars there. You have to swing wide and people do not yield or offer some space unless you have lights on (and even then they don’t always do it).

I try to park in ways that protect my crew as well as those around me. If there was a fire emergency while we were there, we would be one of the first to know and would be moving our rig to the other end of the lot to support our arriving crews.

Parking along the front of stores is a very common practice in emergency services due to quick escapes. As an example, in Baltimore County they have about 30-90 seconds to go responding from time of dispatch. While we have 6 minutes, we prefer not to waste any time due to some of the extended response times we have to the far reaches of our call area.

OOOOHHHHH - one of my biggest pet peeves.  It is illegal to park in a fire lane.  Period.  I’ve been up to the Wine & Spirits store in Shrewsbury and cars are parked in the fire lane in front of the wine store.... Um… the parking places are only another 5 feet away............ and there’s usually one open right in front of the door.  Jeez! :-/

I saw that too when I took my kids in Game Stop the other day.  Just when we was getting ready to step off the sidewalk to go to my car, somebody in a white Lexus pulled up right in front of us to get as close to the door as possible. There was plenty of parking spots for them to park.

Lexus’, BMW, Mercedes...just a few of the “brands” most found violating this law. Privledged.......right?
