Agendas are usually on the districts website or call the school.

I have heard that the district will not be voting on the piano tonight, does anyone know if this is true?  Also, where can you get a copy of the agenda for the meetings?

The only thing on the agenda that mentions a piano is this:

On December 6, 2007, the Board of School Directors approved a transfer of $50,000 of unexpected funds from the 2007-2008 General Fund Revenues and Expenditures, as determined by the 2007-2008 local audit, to the Capital Reserve Fund designated for furniture and equipment. Be it resolved that 50% of any remaining unexpended funds from the 2007-2008 General Fund Revenue and Expenditures, as determined by the 2007-2008 local audit, be transferred to the Capital Reserve Fund and designated by order of priority for the following purposes.
1. Classroom Furniture/Equipment
2. Curriculum and Instruction
3. Site Improvements
4. Technology
5. Athletic Uniforms
6. Fine Arts Equipment
7. Fine Arts Uniforms
8. Piano Replacement
The remaining 50% of the unexpended funds will be allocated to the General Fund balance.

It would not surprise me if the sneak it in.

yes Crackle, we all know the problems are students first dislike of Dr. Shank and that they are even stalking her and Ms. Denton

I also heard today that the piano is not even on the agenda after the finance meeting on Tuesday.

The piano was on the agenda yesterday.  It was removed today.  The salesmen made their pitch for the Steinway at the Finance meeting.  Some members of the Board had a lot of questions about it.  And then there was the article in the YDR yesterday…

My guess is further discussion of the piano will take place either at the extra-curricular committee meeting on 7/15 or at the finance committee meeting on 9/24.

What is the cost of a new Steinway piano?  I have a Kimball and people are suggesting I get a Steinway.  What is the appropriate age to start a youngster with piano lessons?  I am hearing 7 or 8 years old.  I want to get a little one started.

Still considering the Steinway? I hope you got what you wanted out of this thread. smile

The last time I checked, the person that started this thread didn’t even have a young child that she would be considering starting piano lessons for.  Hmmm, could it be that she just wanted to stir things up!?!

The piano was dropped from the agenda tonight.  This was the first meeting that I have attended in a while and I am more convinced now than ever that they need to hire professionals to run the district and the associated $43 million dollar budget.  I am sure that everyone on the board is well intentioned, but there is not enough experience there to be stewards of this kind of money.  We need people that are held accountable to both the schools and the public.

Hey Mark- Not enough experience on the school board to allocate such monies and not near enough experienced teachers left to give the quality of education those tax dollars should be demanding!

Perhaps the statement about losing experienced teachers is true, but how do you measure the effectiveness of an educator?  It appears that the only way that it is done now is by tenure and that is far from the best litmus test in my opinion.

It appears that State test scores went up this year in the school district in spite of the perceived drain of teacher talent.  Just as I believe that the Administration and Board need to be accountable for their actions and fiscal responsibility, I believe just as strongly that the next teacher contract should include measurable standards to rate the overall effectiveness of teachers.  Tenure alone should not be the measure of an educator’s effectiveness in the classroom.

I apologize to the forum for this brief thread.  We now return to our regularly scheduled programming........................................beeeeeeeeeeeeeep
