One would think leaving it at the front door would be the next step

Be careful what you wish for.  I’ve had a mail person lean out their window and chuck the package as hard as they can towards my porch where it landed with a thump against the house.  And lucky me it was something glass that I had ordered.  I guess they weren’t feeling up to getting out of the car that day.

This thread is now jinxing me.  I live in East Hopewell.  In 20 years, I have probably received someone else’s mail maybe 3 or 4 times.  Saturday, I received my next door neighbor’s and today, I received someone else’s who lives on another street.  That’s 2 mail days in a row. ohh

Yes, I also live in Stewartstown and have had alot of trouble with getting and receiving mail. Just the other day, I put something in the mailbox addressed to the IRS along with some other mail. Can you believe the mailperson took everything but the IRS letter! Talk about undreliable postal service.....I am tempted to just take my mail to the post office instead of using my mailbox, just to make sure my mail goes out that same day!! And I should not have to feel this way!!!  I never had this problem before moving to Stewartstown. We have also had wrong mail delivered to us, makes us wander who is getting our mail!!! And most of the time our magazines are SHOVED into the mailbox and damaged when I pull them out! This is careless and I am about ready to complain to someone higher up.......I too have also been to the post office and complained without seeing any change. I am told it is a new carrier....In fact we have gone several Saturdays without getting any mail, which is highly unusual for us....and then on Monday or Tuesday we get a mailbox STUFFED full of mail........SOMEONE DOWN THERE AT THE POST OFFICE NEEDS TO REALIZE THIS KIND OF SERVICE WILL ONLY BE TOLERATED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME! I can understand once in awhile, but this is getting out of control!

So, Wonkida would be considered an excellent trainer?

We’ve never had major issues.  I think we’ve had the same mail lady though since shortly after we moved here around ‘90 and she’s always been good.  It might help that we’re in the area that got switched from rural route #’s to 5 digits that are less likely to be repeated.  We’ve only received the wrong mail a handful of times.  Had many more problems with that at school - some brilliancy in the Philly suburbs decided to have 3 roads in the same township with the same name.

Also have issues with phone calls - always getting calls from parents/family friends/middle school boys on my cell from Stewartstown & other local towns for some girl.

OK, yes. I have recieved my nieghbors mail and vis-versa. Kinda strange that the delivery driver doesn’t give the stack a glance prior to placing it in the box. If they get one box off.......there goes the whole route. Don’t get me wrong, I think they had been doing a fine job....a thankless one at that. I always try to go out of my way on Saturday (the only day I can catch the carrier) to say HI!

I noticed that the construction fence is down at the new Post Office site.

Anybody know if there has been a change of plans?

We seem to get junk mail for several days straight, then all of a sudden, there’s all of our more important stuff....  Last Saturday a very kind neighbor came late in the evening and delivered our mail to us.  We do the same when we receive someone else’s mail.  It happens to us a LOT.  I complained about two years ago (when it was worse).  We did not receive mail on a weekday, and neither did our neighbors.  I was told that the delivery person works “x” amount of hours per day, no more, no less.  If the mail doesn’t all get delivered in that “x” amount of time, then it waits til the next day.  I always wondered if the carriers pick up where they left off, or if they start the route from the beginning again.....  Anyway, I was told by the person at the window in the post office that if anyone has a complaint about their mail, then they are to notify their CARRIER so that the carrier knows they are making this error.  Sorry to be so long winded, but we’ve had this problem for a while and it is aggravating - just wanted to pass on what I was told in the past.  ALSO - important note - the carrier will not deliver your mail if your car is parked “too close” to the mail box.... not just in front of, but what they consider “too close”.....  We learned this the hard way too.  Our carrier must drive a hummer.....
We’ve had some wonderful mail carriers, and I’m not bashing them at all - I do believe that it’s a tough job, but jeez - when you are waiting on a check or something else very important, it’s important to have good mail service.

You can call 1-800-ASK-USPS.  You’ll get a talking computer.  Say “more options”, then “complaint”.

You can then talk to someone higher in their bureaucracy who will take a report and have someone from your Post Office call you.

About 22 years ago for months we kept receiving other people’s mail in our mailbox. People I never heard of. I would always take the mail that was incorrectly delivered to the post office and tell the postal employee. After months of this going on I blew my stack one day when I came home from work and found the envelope containing my mortgage payment book for the next year open. I visited the postmaster and raised cane at the time. I had got tired of our mail being opened and misdelivered, etc. The postmaster told me the only way to ensure that there would be no opened mail or misdelivery would be to rent a postal box. Well we rented one and there have been a multitude of occasions where we have received incorrect mail. Two years later it was reported in the newspaper that two 16-year-old girls driving a blue pick up truck had been going through the area checking people’s mail to see if there was money in the envelopes. They finally got caught! I never did read about what their penalty was. They needed to be placed in jail and heavilly fined for all the inconvenience and aggravation they caused postal customers, plus made to pay resitution to anyone who was hit with a late charge for not receiving a bill for their utilities, etc. They destroyed postal customers credit rating because there is no doubt in my mind that when a payment is made whoever the company is they submit something to a credit reporting agency. Keep in mind the post master told me I was wrong and didn’t know what I was talking about when I complained about the incorrect mail dellivery service. Naturally I was told I’m the only one complaining. That seemed to always be their lame excuse.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was a couple of weeks ago. A friend sent me a sympathy card and the envelope was dated May 20th. It arrived June 20th! This is absolutely outrageous considering it was mailed from York!

We don’t see where that 1 cent increase in postage has helped improved mail service no more than the last 1 cent increase! What is going on here?

I will be filing a complaint with the main Post Office that overseas our post office. That’s the only way to get action.

We can thank previous State Rep. John Barley for messing up our mail delivery service. He pushed to have a state of the art mail postal service center in Lancaster County which was supposed to improve mail service, etc. I have yet to see that happen in all the years that equipment was installed. We had better service when our mail didn’t have to go through Lancaster. We also had accurate delivery service. Someone mailed us a package of Christmas goodies on a Friday from Pittsburgh and we received it the very next day! What is wrong with this picture? duh!

The only way people are going to get any action is to submit a formal complaint. The complaint forms are located in the lobby of the post office on the left side of the wall near the counter. It doesn’t cost you a cent to mail the complaint. You will receive a response!
