I took the advice of Shawn and Dumdumlollies and called...hmmm, what a great idea, too bad not everyone can think of it.  I honestly didn’t really care why but figured I would get the true story instead of just reading what people suspected without getting the facts.
This is what I found out.  Employees were moved to better use their strengths and in some cases to build them up in areas they have been weak in.  They are now going to be cross trained to be able to work in several buildings instead of only knowing how things work in one building.
It sounds to me like there are very valid reasons behind these moves and that in the long run they will have a much stronger more able work force.
If you want to hear the answers for yourself do what I did...I called the Administrative Building at 382-4843 and asked to talk to someone in the cafeteria.
I don’t know why people feel compelled to try to stir up trouble when all they have to do is make a 5 minute phone call to get the real answers.

Because that is probably about the most canned and sugar coated PR response I’ve ever heard. That would’ve been the answer no matter what the situation.

Why is the administration building giving out personnel information to the general public?  The public has no right to know what is happening with personnel, this should be solely the decision of the administration.
Who is the person that gave this ‘response’?

That being said, no wonder SESD has a high resignation rate of staff; employees like stability in their work environment.  And stability does seem to be an issue at SESD.

I tried to not respond.  I really did.  But all I can say is ‘What a bunch of twits’.

JPC why are you so cranky...Everyone is allowed an opinion without someone else being so nasty.  I don’t know if you work, so maybe you can not sympathize with people who have been somewhere for maybe 10 years or so and then told out of no where that they are being moved.  It is one thing if you take the job knowing that it is a possibility or if it is your decision to move.  But to just be told out of no where...I would imagine it would be very stressful.  Crackle and 89GTA are right and you are Just Plain Cranky!

You dont know me.  On my last job, I was released on the drive home from the office, after being told I was doing great work.  I know about stress.

There are a lot of glaring realities here that are being ignored.  As an employee of any company you have little or no recourse for where your employer places you.  PA is an at will state, and as such the employment agreement can be terminated at any time by either party without reason.  I dont know what sort of compensation package these folks get, but if this is such a hardship, vote with your feet.  Walk away and attempt to duplicate or improve your position elsewhere.  Otherwise, suck it up.

Employees that are not treated with respect leave.  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out!  Call it whatever you want ‘utilizing strengths’, etc., but transfers are often done by management in hopes that the targeted employees will leave.

Of course they are.  When a company does a layoff, you can pretty much assure that transfers happen beforehand to ensure that there is a strict guidline of who gets cut.  Say, a department, a project or group.  There cannot be any subjective reason for layoff criteria, at least not publicly.
