Parents do have a choice - homeschool, cyber or charter schools - public or private education.  As a new thread on here, someone asked about cyber schools at no cost to the parents?  I guess they don’t know where their taxes go.  Are any of these choices perfect - no = nothing ever will be.

I still believe that SESD is moving in the right direction.  Why did Mr. Wilson think there was going to be a high resignation 3 years ago?  Probably because the district was moving forward with “out with the old in with the new.” Not everyone is comfortable when they are taken out of their comfort zone.  Change is always hard.

Did Mr. Wilson know that there was going to be a rash of resignations/retirements because the new contract was not going to be as favorable to retirees as the current one is?  Just a thought.

I know some of you will think I am beating a dead horse but I am still hearing of teachers that have accepted jobs in neighboring districts and noticed on the SESD website we have MANY positions still advertised, including fall sports coaching jobs.  What happens if we can’t fill the vacancies?  We are losing experienced teachers, brand new teachers and even lost an emergency cert teacher that the district just paid for classes to certify.  Where are we going to find so many certified replacements?

I don’t know mamma, but I’m sure you do.  Tell us.  I’m sure that if we got rid of Dr. Shank they would all be lining up.

just because something is listed does not mean the position is actually still open - so maybe they left everything on the list just to give SF something else to complain about.....

Seems a bit drastic BevyJean, but it is apparent that this is a problem that does not seem to be getting better.  This Thursday’s board meeting is cancelled so the next one is at the end of the month.  Take a minute of your time and look at the number of resignations when the board agenda is posted and maybe it will stir a concern in you too.

Shawn, I don’t think the district does anything intentionally to fire up SF.  If so, maybe the Steinway is just for fun too.  Kind of sick sense of humor wouldn’t you think?

How is the district going to hire new staff without a school board meeting?  Doesn’t school start before the next board meeting?  I think fall sports start before the next meeting also.  What happens to the athletes without coaches?

as usual.....the sky is falling

for fall sports - I only see listings (with 1 exception) for ASSISTANT coaches.  They always need help so I imagine the listing will be there indefinitely.  And the chain crew last year was fielded by volunteers (kids and parents).  The football schedule is already listed on highschoolsports.net.

Unfortunately, when you lose teachers you lose coaches and other types of leaders.  Just to name of few, we just lost the basketball coach, golf coach, and high school awards ceremony coordinator.

The next Board meeting is Aug. 21.  First day of school is Aug. 26.  New teachers are approved by the Board throughout the year, not just in Aug.  My nephew will be playing junior high football - they have a coach.
