...anyone else get the horrible looking legal size sheet of paper in their door yesterday bashing the current administration and urging residents to vote for John Kerry for an Energy Independent America?

Probably would have had more effect had they spent more than 2 minutes on producing it, not real sleek if you know what I mean.

Interesting that whoever delivered them is either doing it solo or ashamed of whatever group they are part of as there is no group name or affiliation listed on it at all.  If it’s a true political mailing is must contain this I think, but I guess these are just door dropoffs similiar to windshield flyers.

They’re lucky I didn’t catch them putting it in my door, I don’t appreciate unwanted solicitation direct to my door smile

Not intending to start a political fight thread, just wondering who else got it and what you thought?

I too was overlooked and did not receive the flyer.

I too was unaware that Cheney receives $180,000 a year from Haliburton. Cheney’s receiving $180,000 a year has nothing to do with why Haliburton got the “deal.” The reason why Haliburton got the deal is because they were the only company that had the equipment to provide what was needed.

And no, I am not a supporter of the Bush/Cheney ticket.

However, I do believe that the public is entitled to know all the facts when it comes to distributing political candidate literature be it from a grassroots person, a political party or the candidate themselves.

Nope, can’t say I saw it.

Grassroot flyers are never fancy looking. That’s why they are referred to as grassroots literature. smile

Sorry CD this law was changed when someone I know challenged this. The current York City Mayor had a web site when he was campaigning and he did not include the disclosure statement at his web site. This oversight was brought to the attention of the previous county commissioner board. The county solicitor ruled that it was perfectly okay for that web site to not include a disclosure statement. The person who raised the question wanted to make sure they understood what the solicitor said mentioned that his ruling means that if she wanted to she could distribute the couple of thousand mock million dollar bills she had left over from the county fair from working the UWSA tent. The solicitor told her she could do that.  The state elections office at the time took the position of not wanting to become involved and recommended that the county solicitor be consulted. Seems the decision on this was left up to local county solicitor.

So sorry even though you might disagree with that flyer, whoever distributed that grassroots flyer is acting within the law.

They’re lucky I didn’t catch them putting it in my door, I don’t appreciate unwanted solicitation direct to my door smile

I’m sure if you were home they most likely would have handed it to you personally. At least that’s the way it should be done in my opinion.

Whether or not you don’t appreciate unwanted “solicitation” direct to your door, the person who distributed is exercising their constitutional rights with respect fo free speech.

...Not intending to start a political fight thread, just wondering who else got it and what you thought?

Again, sorry to say I didn’t receive it. I wish I had.  cheese

I consider this to be inappropriate behavior. If your front door was open common sense dictates that someone is home. It doesn’t take much effort to knock on a door or ring a door bell.  mad

Even newspaper carriers, post office delivery and other delivery people know not to enter into a home if the door is open.

I’m tired of hearing people slam Cheney on the Halliburton issue. He received NO MONEY from Halliburton’s contracts in Iraq. The money he received was from deals the company made BEFORE he became vice-president. Don’t believe me?

Check the facts here :  http://www.factcheck.org/article261.html

NOTE: This is an independent news site. They have issued facts about lies told by BOTH parties. Unfortunately, there have been plenty of lies told by both.

You must have overlooked reading my response to the allegation stated in the flyer that was distributed. I have copied and pasted it below for you.

“I too was unaware that Cheney receives $180,000 a year from Haliburton. Cheney’s receiving $180,000 a year has nothing to do with why Haliburton got the “deal.” The reason why Haliburton got the deal is because they were the only company that had the equipment to provide what was needed.

This is why I made my post. I wasn’t replying to your post JJH. BTW, I don’t really support Bush or Kerry. I’m not real thrilled with either of them.

TO those of you who may be influenced by this flyer:

1) Halliburton has had no ties to VP Cheney since the VP resigned to go on the campaign trail for the 2000 election.
Halliburton was the only company with the manpower and resources capable of providing the military with what it requires/needs to support operations in Iraq. The military has needs that you can’t put a dollar sign on… MORALE.
Everytime I get a hot meal or my laundry gets done quickly and correctly I thank god the contract for services to Iraq was not an open bid… as those of you who may have served… this usually means a piss poor service or product will be provided to the military. I have no complaints and only thanks for KBR (Halliburton) providing such fine service in such a hostile area.

2) The election is coming down to the wire and the Democrats have opened up there playbook and using there usual array of slander and negativity to try to swing votes from those who are just that gullible. As this flyer may be legal, it can only be taken for what it is worth… just a piece of paper with no meaningless writing and no affiliation with any sound political group.

3) It may be true that 15,000 civilians have died since the beginning of the war in Iraq; however, I am certain that most of them were not from US and coalition forces.
It is sad to say but accidental deaths are going to happen… it is not like America and I’m damn sure it’s not like Stewartstown here. The terrorists live among the population and use them as shields. They kill anyone who works for Americans and spread fear across the towns and cities in which they occupy. It is imperative that we uproot these terrorists and if you understood the mindset of these terrorists you would see small collateral damage as a small price to pay towards the war on terrorism.

In final remarks I hope everyone sees the light and votes for who they know is right. If you want a President with an severe negative outlook on America, pre- 9/11 mindset, and many more AMERICAN CIVILIANS killed in the terrorist attacks… be my guest… vote for Sen. Kerry this November.

If you want a leader who is willing to have a positive can do attitude, post 9/11 mindset willing to protect Americans on their own turf… then you have chosen the right President… You have voted for four more years for Mr. Bush.

Semper Fi,
Lcpl. Sewell

Note the date of the report was the year of our Lord 2000.

Now Governor Rendell recently stated that certain Military absentee votes aren’t very important.

Tell me about the lesser of evils and third party candidates like Ross Perot, who are just spoilers to allow the likes a President William Jefferson Clinton to win. President Clinton noted for redefining the definition of oral sex, that it isn’t sex..

GroundPounderUSMC, watch it we have just as many terrorist here in the states. To quote John Kerry the famous statesman it’s a nuisance (terrorism that is). Stealing signs is a form of nuisance and terrorism, as are ribbons on a tree. The idiot terrorists in this community are no different that the towel heads chopping off heads in Iraq. Neither have the guts to do anything in the open and accept the consequences.

Ok, democrats it’s you turn. Ok would you threaten me?  (As recently happened in Maryland to a Business person all he did was advertise at the wrong time and place according to who?) (I was a democrat never again).

Kerry been a senator for how long?

What has he done in the senate to rectify any of the problems?

How has he demostrated leadership in the senate.?

How has any politican demonstrated anything except to disrobe us of our rights?

Believe what you wish.

The votes were thrown out!

Rendell vote- watch plan not political?

Thumbs Down to Gov. Ed Rendell’s election SWAT-team tactical plan to send observers to county election offices on Nov. 2 with the excuse he wants the state to avoid the tussle in Tallahassee that marred the 2000 election.

“His reasons are specious—and suspect.” Joke, as is ACRE, etc.

“The role of these individuals is to determine potential problems and offer assistance to the counties to resolve them,” the governor said in an Oct. 6 internal memo obtained by The Morning Call newspaper of Allentown.

And while Rendell says he’s been told by his lawyers this doesn’t constitute political activity, we’re not buying it—and obviously neither are many count election officials across the state, including York County’s John Scott.

With Rendell and Kerry both Democrats, and both parties vowing to turn the 2004 vote into a circus of litigation before all is said and done, any disclaimer regarding political activity is out of place, and insulting to the voters
