dseanrock…
15,000 woman and children… let me know when you find credible evidence.
I guess it’s also a lot different for you sitting back happy in the states giving your little commentary on the war. Just because a “child” dies over here does not mean that:
A) The US killed them… they usually blame the US so the families can try and collect money.
b)He was innocent… do you know how many children plant IED’s, shoot RPG’s, Ak’s, and mortars at American forces everyday? I would bet to say you don’t.

This mindset you and a small portion of other Americans carry is holding back Americans Marines and Soldiers from doing their job and the consequences are more and more American deaths. I would personally like to thank you for being one of the few criticizing the war in a way that makes the Military be cautious. I know if we had more lead way with the way we conduct business… ALOT LESS MARINES and SOLDIERS WOULD DEAD. We fight to protect you and every other American by keeping terrorism here and not in the States.

To GroundPounderUSMC:

You have my support. The biggest problem I see is that we have always been “gunshy” since Vietnam and we can’t seem to learn from our mistakes. War is hell, innocent people die. It is a sad fact.

How many civilians died during World War II? On both sides? Sure people balked about it but did our war planners stop carpet bombing Germany and Japan? Not one bit. Did the war end sooner as a result? I would bet 100% it did.

Flash forward to Vietnam… we tried to fight a limited war. For the longest time we tried to avoid bombing Hanoi. We avoided civilian deaths in North Vietnam, meanwhile, we went nuts at times in South Vietnam. We were fighting a new war where the enemy at night was your friend during the day.

We did the same thing in Somalia. Limited effort with limited support. In the first Gulf War, we limited our objective and left. Back to round two… we went full force but were not prepared for another Vietnam type fight afterwards.

I understand the reality of what is going on over there. Most of the true insurgents are not even from Iraq. They are there stirring up trouble and feeding on the passions of their religion. They are getting the locals worked up into a frenzy. They use kids and women because they know how hard it is for us to handle that back home. They are fighting an awesome pyschological war against us.

I don’t have an answer for this other then you need to fight fire with fire. Fight light, hit fast and hard. Play their game. No holes barred. Sure we look like a bad guy… but it is all how you handle the press. You never see press on the good things we do over there.

My hat is off to every soldier and sailor serving our country. One of my EMT partners is over there now - someone some of you might have counted on to save you stateside. He is now saving lives as a combat medic in Iraq. He is one of many brave soldiers that is answering the call to duty.

While I might not agree with the reason why we are in Iraq, I do support those that were ordered to go there. Iraq could have been handled differently but it wasn’t and that is that. Can Kerry do a better job? Who knows. Can Bush fix it? Who knows. Frankly I am not impressed with either of them.

To the rest of the public: Remember when you come into a forum like this and spout off, those soldiers help you maintain that right to speak out.

According to you previous post you are in Iraq.

If that’s true do you have an absentee ballot to vote?

While this thread has obviously gone astray from it’s original intent, I certainly hope that one thing has become apparent from all of this - and that is the ignorance of our registered voters. Political spinning is only effective on those who are are too lazy to investigate the baseless claims. The Cheney/Haliburton issue wouldn’t even have been raised here if the posting party had looked up the information and learned that it was false. Instead, they read it on a homemade poster handed out by an anonymous person, and accepted it as fact.  Doesn’t it scare you that this person is allowed to vote?  Doesn’t it scare you more that there are many more voters, just like this, who won’t take the time to research facts, but will cast a vote for the leader of our country based on misinformation on a homemade poster?

Here’s something else to think about.  Don’t take for granted your right to post here.  If this were pre-war Iraq, Saddam would have had you killed for voicing an opinion that didn’t agree with his. What a wonderful country we live in that grants us such freedoms, regardless of your political views.

And GroundPounder - thank you for being of service to your country. I have a wonderful life here in the US, and it’s only because people like you have fought for us.

15,000 women & children Dead. 380 tons of explosives missing. flip flopping from “WE INVADED FOR W.M.D” to “OH WERE NOW HERE TO LIBERATE IRAQ” Gasoline up 80% from last year. new jobs $8.00per hr. medicare up 17% nuclear weapons in north korea that can reach the calif coast. THIS IS GOOD? WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDER BAD? I GUESS THE LAST SCANDEL I COULD THINK OF DEMACRATIC WISE WAS CLINTONS BJ! i guess a bj worse then what i just mentioned!  just remember this “YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CANT HIDE” HEARD THAT BEFORE? THATS RIGHT YOU HAVE!  “YOU CAN RUN , BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE” GEORGE BUSH ON OSAMA BIN LADEN IN 2002 NEWS CONFERENCE.  SEEMS HES STILL HIDING TO ME! rolleyes

While Clinton was getting his BJ, Osama was planning his attack against us. How many people were killed by Bin Laden in the 8 yrs. Clinton was president? Why did Cilnton turn down Jordan and Afghanistans proposal to hand over Bin Laden? Why wouldn’t Clinton allow the military to kill Bin Laden when he was in the sights of the armed drone? Why didn’t Clinton deal with Saddam in the 12 yrs. that he snubbed the UN? Why did Kerry vote against the 1st gulf war? Why does he continue to LIE?
I think Clinton’s bj is the least of the democrats scandals.

To groundpounderusmc:  THANK YOU!

Yes it scares me. It scares me that we could be sending a wrong message to the terrorists. Remember one thing Saddam didn’t believe we would invade Iraq. Or Afghanistan for that matter. Finally after many years we are showing some level of backbone.

Also keep in mind that the network news media, the print media, and people like Michael Moore practice spin at the cost of endangering our country. My “2 cents”. Right this minute I’m listening to the debate over the explosives. Been gathering information on it all day.

As for being off topic, I apologize my contribution to going off on a tangent.

No apology necessary for the thread divergence - it pretty much had to happen. It is good that politics incite passion in people. I would worry if it didn’t. However, I’d like to see the passion used for the greater good - the dissemination of accurate information instead of the spreading of silly rumors. But such is the nature of politics. It’s easy to slant your opinion when you are only given partial or false information.  Which is why we need to educate ourselves on the factual information on each candidate and dismiss the folly. Sad that this is such a tedious effort, but if someone’s going to bash a candidate here (and even more important - vote!) - it should at least be done with a background of factual information.  And it only stands to reason that homemade flyers don’t hold strong as a credible source.  Some of the people posting here have obviously done their homework, understand the issues, and have checked their facts.  But to those who obviously havent - Verify, verify, verify.  Then sound off. I love to listen to opposing views, as long as they’re accurate.

Yes. Thanks djseanrock for your intelligent policy proposals. Sorry, but I’m not going anywhere, and your hysterical shrieking is not helping your cause. Like candidate, like supporter, I suppose.  rolleyes

djsean - if you paid any attention in high school history - the only reason you are allowed to post your views in a public forum such as this - is because people have died to give you the right to do so.  Every day, you take advantage of liberties that others gave their lives for. But since you didn’t see coverage on CNN about the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the World Wars, etc. then they are okay with you while this war is not? Since you are obviously partaking of the rights that you have (free speech, for one), did you ever consider enlisting for military service to ensure their continuation? Or would you rather just let others fight and die for you?  Don’t bash others for what you yourself would not do. Has it ever occured to you to thank a veteran who risked their lives to keep your parents and grandparents safe? You would not be here posting if people had not died to give you the right to do so. Or will you be content just spewing accusations devoid of merit? Your words reflect your youth. I hope that when you grow up you feel the need to make up for them. Your comments decry America more than they decry Republicans.  And if America isn’t good enough for you, I hear that North Korea has some cheap property.

Djseanrock here’s some help for your cause

These are the same people who would put you thru a shedder for opening your mouth. They might even kidnap you and take your head off to demonstrate their courage as they hide their face with a towel. Remember they are still holding a female hostage who was “working for humanitarian purposes”. You are an American and they want YOU, YOU dead. See we tolerate your right to comment. Remember Saddam was paying $25,000 to suicide bombers families. So Sir you are an incidental beneficiary of our freedom. So respect the freedom you still have.  In the meantime, here’s more of the mentality you appear to support.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU OCT 28, 2004 17:02:35 ET XXXXX

TERROR TAPE WARNS OF BUSH, CHENEY CONSEQUENCE

**Exclusive**

The CIA and FBI have authenticated a new al Qaeda videotape which warns of retribution for Americans electing Bush and Cheney.

“What took place on September 11 was but the opening salvo of the global war on America and that our Lord willing, the magnitude and ferocity of what is coming your way will make you forget all about September 11,” the man, whose face is covered by a headdress, warns in the video.

“After decades of American tyranny, now it’s your turn to die.”

The alarming tape which warns the next terror attack will dwarf 9/11.

The CIA and FBI late Wednesday authenticated the tape, federal sources tell DRUDGE.

ABCNEWS, which obtained the tape from a source in Pakistan, has been informed of the government’s standing.

A top goverment source said from Washington that ABC withheld the final 15 minutes of the tape from the feds—the portion of the tape where the man warns of retribution for Americans electing Bush and Cheney.

“The FBI did not see the last 15 mins,” the source claims.

ABC stongly denies the charge.

MORE

“You are guilty, guilty, guilty.  You’re as guilty as Bush and Cheney.  You’re as guilty as Rumsfeld and Ashcroft and Powell...,” the man states.

He goes on to warn of an upcoming horror: “The streets will run with blood,” and “America will mourn in silence” because they will be unable to count the number of the dead.

“People of America, that was the verdict now for the sentencing: as participants and partners in the crimes of the regime, you too shall pay the price for the blood that has been spilled.”

One ABC source, who demanded anonymity, said Thursday morning, the network was struggling to find a correct journalistic “balance” before airing any story on the video.

“This is not something you just throw out there while people are voting,” the ABC source explained.

END of DRUDGE REPORT

Right ABC you play political games with our freedom and right to exist.

Personally I want exactly what they don’t want, Bush. There’s a reason they don’t want Bush but, your freedom is blinding your judgment.
