This sure makes me wonder what all the billions of dollars spent on the war already is being spent on! mad It’s pretty sad when our own government is not providing our military with the proper equipment. mad

I think before you begin this fund drive you need to check with one of the military recruiting centers. Not everyone is legally permitted to purchase bullet proof vests.  The purchase itself must be done my someone that has the legal authority to do so.

If the government approves your fund drive they might be able to provide you with the name of a company that would be willing to offer a decent discount on the bullet proof vests. smile

I think this is a great idea and wish you good luck. smile

Thank you… but we have plenty of Flak Jackets and Sappi Plates for everyone… MY unit has so many we use them to armor the floor of HMMWV’s! They aren’t bullet proof… but nothing is except Sappi plates to 7.62 round… they will stop small caliber pistols but thats it. They are made for Shrapnel.

Thank you for the concern but we have plenty of Flak jackets to go around!

To Groundpounder:

I am glad to hear the Corps seems to take care of their men. The problem seems to be quite a few Army Reserve and Guard units were deployed without enough gear like vests. I have spoken with many that have to “hot vest”, similar to Navy hot bunking.

I am sure the Corps has its faults, but I would be willing to bet the Army could learn a thing or two about supply and logistics as well as taking care of their own from the Corps.

Keep up the fight, be safe and be well. We all look forward to your safe return.

Alex

I don’t doubt your word about plenty of flak jackets being available to your unit but I know the Army doesn’t have plenty to go around. This is why I suggested a recruiting office be contacted before undertaking this fund raiser.

My neighbor just returned after 16 months in Iraq and they had a shortage. mad

When my spouse was in the Army engaged in heavy combat overseas he was assigned a flak jacket but didn’t wear it because it weighed too much and it was too hot. Through the grace of God nothing happened to him. The flak jackets today are much more light weight.

3 days after my neighbor arrived in Iraq his unit’s tent and a tent next to his caught fire from the batteries used to provide power. All the soldiers military and personal belonging went up in a blaze of smoke. These batteries were proven to be defective when used in Texas at a military base where they caused fires. Their CO said that the government would replace everything. I knew better than that. All personal belongings were not replaced. Also their underclothing were not replaced. The parents of the soldiers were notified of the situtation.  The parents were given the name of a company stateside to order underclothing from. The price given was not that great of a discount. Parents would order socks, t-shirts and underwear which had to be shipped to the parents home. The parents in turn shipped the underclothing to their military children. The company was prohibited from shipping the orders directly to the parents children.

1) I have never seen such poor coordination… I know personally I have had one issued to me even back stateside that i got to take home. The one I have now is a little better. I know for a fact that all units in the sunni triangle should have flak jackets. Ive been throughout this place and they shuold all have them… even Army reservists.

2) It is not the case in the army.. but the MC makes you were flak and kevlar to drive a HMMWV.

3) I would love to say we could send our extra vests… but we use them as floor armor since i vehicles get IED attacks regualary around here.

i am amazed at the amount of people in york county that supported bush and his policys and his war , but could care less about the unprotected young men and women in iraq. i put out a call for help for them and guess how many people agreed or asked if they could help them? thats right 0 thats zero! young people are dying for and what YOU voted for but now that the elections over no one wants to help them! this is very disturbing to me. no one was interested in helping with bullet proof vest. you even have one marine posting on this site that claims he’s over there saying"dont bother ,we have plenty” when we know that all the troops dont have them! everyone has yellow ribons on their cars saying support or troops , waves and post the american flag, & voted for bush but not one has come forward to help them. a sticker on your car or a flag in your yard doesnt save a life! i saw a lady on t.v making up x mas boxes for a few of the troops & god bless her! 5 to 10 people cant do it all! if you voted for it , get off your butt and help out! war is hell and if you voted for it your responsible for it. dont preach freedom & and god bless america if all your doing is NOTHING! i didnt vote for bush but im still trying to help the troops & get out of the mess that bush and the people that voted for him got them into! blood is on the hands of the republicans and i can tell you this , as far as i know GOD IS NOT A REPUBLICAN! im sure x mas at the whitehouse will be very nice this year! very very sad! snake

Somehow I am not going to just send you money to buy vests. I don’t know you. I don’t know what you are really going to do with the money. I do know that there are many web sites available to support our troops. I contacted one, and I have the name of a soldier that I can support in a personal way. I know that my support is going directly to my soldier. Maybe your tone in various posts have cause others to not want to support you. They also may be supporting troops in another way, as I am. Don’t assume that by not sending you money, we don’t support our troops. (And you may want to remember who voted against money for our troops :!: )

1) I said we had plenty here… aka in hostile areas that the Marine Corps are occupying.. after asking around it is apprent that the flak jackets are just not needed in some areas because there are not proned to heavy enemy attack… they are lucky they dont have the wear them.
2) It is Americas war and the american people are supporting it… god help us if the marine corps had its way… the democrats would have us all on war crimes tribunals…

The war is being run fine and we have plenty of support. Also, Ive been to baghdad.. they dont wear flak jackets there becasue they never recieve mortar fire… and to be quite honest that place is better that most marine corps bases in the states.

Sean- I commend that you are doing your part to support the troops. But jumping to the conclusion that we don’t care because we didn’t send you money is a bit ridiculous. Do you really think you are one of the “five or ten” trying to help? I think you’ve sorely underestimated the coordinated efforts of support groups who are organizing on a national basis.  I’ve made generous donations to organized groups with sound management and financial reporting - so that I know where my money is going.  Just because you don’t see it, or we don’t announce it to the public, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. There’s a whole world outside of “seansworld”. You should visit it sometime.

Well said DAW!  I for one would never support an effort started by sean - the immature tone of his posts turns me off completely.  I come from a military family - my dad was in the Navy and each of my brothers have served - 3 of them in Vietnam.  I wholeheartedly support our troops but would not even consider sending money to someone I don’t know and quite honestly don’t have a very high opinion of, based on his comments here.  Assuming that no one supports the troops just because they don’t give him money is absurd.  Sean, if you want the respect of your “community”, grow up.

i never asked for anyone to send me $. i asked to help if anyone would l like to. help means donating to any fund that may be supportive or making a call to your congressmen/women or reaching out on your own.  they dont want to as i suspected. and mary jo its a fund that is set up for troops not a fund set up in my name. i ll tell you what maybe you can do it! take charge! heres your chance! i elect mary jo and daw to set up funds to help the troops. you can be in charge and collect anything you can and i will gladly help you to do it! so what are you gonna do? lets get rolling ! come on someone else make an offer to help! ANYONE!  as for remeber who voted against it , thats hog wash / bush brainwashing! remember who sent the troops there in the way of flying bullets WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE WHOLE WORLD! thats why 1/2 his staff is leaving him! they want out of his mess! i realize i am not liked by a few on here simply because i state my views & really i dont care. but i forgot if you didnt vote for bush , your no good here.  sorry i dont kiss up to bush as others do . hail to the theif!

Sean-instead of wasting your time & energy
bashing everyone with what “you” think we think,
Why don’t you go over to the Craley Senior Center & help them with the donation drive that they are currently collecting for the troops. I’m sure they could use the extra help. Many people have already taken charge & are already involved…
As for the Bush comments..  time to get over it & move on. confused

As I stated before, I am already helping.  I have already taken charge, I am doing my part. Because your cause is not my cause, does not make me wrong. I am not interested in “running” for the office of your cause. Buy the early Christmas present and do your part.
