Actually, now that the library has moved, the post office wouldn’t hurt to have a more convenient in/out location. A few more parking spaces, you know? Althoug moving the post office outside the borough may cause issues I’m unsure about, but it’s a thought!
Hey, let’s nickname Stewartstown, “Lil Shrewsbury”. Build it up and before you know it, five traffic lights won’t be able to contain the congestion!!!!

In my opinion the best location for the post office would be where Houston’s Supermarket, Stewartstown Station, Penn Station and a has yet to be seen restaurant in Orchard Shoppping Center. The post office needs space for trucks to get in and out when they deliver/pick up mail from/to Lancaster. At the time I made this recommendation several years ago, approximately 1 post masters/2 post mistresses they agreed. Unfortunately the government was supposedly was strapped for funds at the time and Stewartstown sub station was not at the top of their list. The US Postal service lacked forsight and depended upon their hindsight so now there’s a big rush on locating a spot for the post office which is bursting at its sides. The location I recommended would be very convenient to the elderly who have lived here all their lives. They would not have to worry about walking to Bailey Springs and risk being hit by a vehicle traveling fast on 851. Even a traffic light at this location would not increase safety to the elderly. The site I suggested falls well within the borough limits.

The Post Office recently announced plans to find a new location. I believe it was posted here as well. At one point I think Bailey Springs had plans for the Post Office (on the left as you come in).
I understand it was purchased by Shipley and recall that they would like to build a convenience store, perhaps a car wash, and one other thing that I can’t remember...a gas station maybe? I just don’t recall for sure.
I looked into it a little more and was told that the Shipley Group has requested 5 sewer EDU’s and have plans to build a convenience store, and/or bank, and/or car wash. I could guess that the convenience store would include a gas station, but that’s purely conjecture on my part. I was also told that there is some confusion as to whether the location is within Stewartstown or part of Hopewell. It appears to me that it is in the borough, but I’m no authority on it!
The property in question is the “grassy” area opposite of Bailey Drive (East side of Hill St.) and it sits on top of the knoll. The fire dept. burned the house down about 12 years ago as part of a training exercise. The property is in the borough.
