As you might recall, Congress passed a bill requiring all voting machines to be electronic in 2006.
John Scott the county elections director informed me Friday that on November 19th at the York Expo Center from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. there will be a display and demonstrations of numerous electronic voting machines. The public will have the opportunity to vote for the electronic voting machine of their choice. The electronic voting machine which receives the highest number of public votes will be the one the county elections office will purchase and use at all polling places in 2006.
Personally, I don’t trust electronic voting machines as it’s been proven in several states that use these types of voting machines serious errors have occurred. Remember the hanging chad episodes in Florida in 2000?
The best accurate method of voting is paper ballot. Sure it takes a little longer to tally the votes but there is no opportunity for voter fraud with this method.
Adams county have used paper ballots up until this year. It would take Adams county 2 weeks for the final tally of votes to be completed using paper ballots.
There are so many vendors pushing electronic voting machines today. Diebold is one vendor to stay clear of due to hundreds of errors in their software system that has yet to be corrected.
If registered voters are forced to cast their vote via electronic machines, I firmly believe that there also needs to be a hard copy of the vote cast. There needs to be a paper trail.
Remember, it is easier than you think for voter fraud to occur. Voter fraud has been with us for decades. Please remember that when you cast your vote at the York Expo Center.
