Had dinner at Mickey Dee’s tonight at 7:00 p.m..  I was shocked at the condition of the place, it was filthy big surprise  Gunk dripping down the front of everything, it was disgusting.  mad  Besides that, there was no ketchup (it took a girl 10 minutes to find a box in the storeroom), no napkins.... Haven’t been in there since the summer (just drive through), has it been like this for awhile or was it just a bad night?

It has been a long time since I entered Mickey Dee’s. The few times I visit I usually use the drive-through.

My suggestion would be to call during the day and ask to speak to the manager and explain to them what you posted here.

Mickey Dee’s doesn’t pay high wages and most workers are part time with no benefits.  mad

The girl might have been new. Most fast food places like Mickey Dee’s have high a turnover.  mad

I don’t think there was any management there.  The one guy bagging the food for the order taker had a bunch of friends eating there.  They were bantering back and forth and then the guy working said “you want a knife?” and his friend said “yeah, give me a knife, ha, ha, ha.” Then one of his friends said “there’s bird in here.” They caught the bird and then one of his friends put the bird in his pocket big surprise  I couldn’t look after that...I was afraid he was going to bite the bird’s head off. mad  It was a nightmare confused

First off - if there was a live bird in the restaurant, that’s against Health Dept. regulations.  Birds carry diseases, (aside from the avian flu) and if that boy was touching food or anything else in the restaurant, (that someone else touched who was making food), it could spread to people.  And le’ts not fool ourselves into thinking that they all wash well.  That should be reported, and I would think they could be fined and/or temporarily shut down.

Any Mc D’s is never great service.  Any fast food is never great service.  It’s fast food.  You get what you pay for.  However, having said that, when they did the whole ‘Extreme Makeover’ of our Mc D’s (I think they were going for the coffee house look), the service got 10x worse.

I stopped in there one afternoon to get a shake on my way down to Hunt Valley.  They took my order right away, (along with about 15 other people) and then promptly filled ABSOLUTELY NO ORDERS.  They were concerned with the drive-thru that day, (which, they must draw straws for, because I’ve been in the drive-thru and had very slow service).

The whole time, the young boy on the front line just stood at the cash register asking “Can I help the next person in line?” The answer was No, because he had taken everyone’s orders, (and money).

At one point many of us asked if he would start filling orders, (there were three people working drive-thru) Finally, 30 minutes later, after I and the rest of the customers were about to go over the counter and fill our own orders, the manager came out and started filling orders.

That’s taking fast food service, (which is what you should expect), and taking it down a few notches.

The bad service is the reason to stop patronizing them, however, the animal in the restaurant issue should be addressed above and beyond that.

Sure, not going to Mc D’s will stop that individual from being in the middle of the problem, but what about all of the innocent people travelling the interstate?  Or the locals that do not read this chat board?  They have no clue.

The bird was a sparrow that flew in from outside.

After the filthy conditions I saw last night big surprise  I don’t think I could stomach eating there even through the drive-thru (now that I’ve seen the inside).

Arby’s is pretty good, like that new french dip sandwich with the cup of au jus.

If you have a problem with an establishment and you think it is a health violation, contact the York County Health Department. I don’t have their contact info handy, but if you go to the county website, you can find it there. They conduct random inspections of places and do not hesitate to close them down if they miss to many things.

Inspection scores are also periodically posted in the local paper so you can see the places that scored poorly.

I too have repeated complained to management. Same problems over and over again. I go back because my son (age 5) like the toys. Go figure.
The outlets in the play area are rarely covered, the store room where the cleaning supplies are kept is never locked, typicaly open/ajar, trash cans are usually full (both inside/outside)

I’ve complained via e-mail to regional management who has been very appreciative of the comments and some of the more critical safety issues where fixed. Others were fixed only to reappear later.
The old managers were fired shortly afterwards.
I received free coupons in the mail by the way.

The bottom line is that McDonalds make so much money that you can go in there every day, tell them that you meal was messed up, a manager some come back and they would give you a free burger/fries/drink and they will without a question.
They have no tracking, no documentation etc. Why because they don’t care if you are really happy, don’t care what it costs because they are making so much money it is pathetic.

The real solution is to patrionize some place else.

Arbys is typically very clean, unless you are coming in on the tail end of dinner rush hour which is the same everywhere.

ChickFilet is great. You have a variety of options in Stewartstown etc.. Why support a large company with greedy stock holders when you can support your local “not fast food” place “The Coach Light” right across the street from McDonalds.

I support our local restaurants (except My Three Sons), haven’t been happy there the last few times I ate there, but sometimes I need a quick meal to feed my family and it’s necessary at a time like that to go through a drive-thru.

For the fast food places (as with most establishments) a lot depends on the manager.  I’ve never had a bad experience at the Leader Heights McDonald’s, but avoid the Shrewsbury one.  Sometimes I eat lunch at the Hunt Valley Burger King, and their service is usually very good and the interior clean.  I guess I expect cleanliness regardless of what type of restaurant it is.  That and speed of service are how I rate a fast food restaurant (it’s not where most of us go for “nice” dining wink ).

Speaking of Chick Filet… they are running a special fund raiser this Friday from 5-8pm for the Stewartstown Lions. They are donating 20% of the sales to the Lions between those hours. The special certificates will be handed out by Scouts and Lions that evening if you don’t already have them.

I heard about this tonight while presenting at a meeting for them. They are a good group dedicated to serving the community. Go out and show your support if you can Friday night and have a dinner or snack at Chick Fillet. At least their food is better than some of the crap we eat.

If i only took a camera to work with me some days, i could sit here and tell you stories of places ive been that would make you stop eating out all together.  Just like someone said they are posted in the paper.  A good example of this is the Ruby Tuesdays up near Queen St. they were so close and i mean so close to be shutting down it wasnt even funny.  I know i went in to work our machines over for about 2 hours to get them back to a working order.  Lets not talk about chinese rest. either.  Keep a look out in the paper is it posted when ever a place is inspected.
