FYI - Citgo’s gas comes from Venezuela
Buy fuel locally to help keep taxes down.
Citgo is indirectly owned by Petroleos de Venezuela - a Venezuelan company. Citgo’s three main refineries are in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lemont, Illinois - Although it is true that Citgo does import gas from Venezuela to America, it is more true that they also draw crude from the Alaska pipeline, the Gulf of Mexico, and pump it out of Texas and Louisiana - send it to their refineries and turn into gas, petrolium, wax, asphalt and other chemicals.
In this day and age, its nearly impossible to truely find a product that is manufactured foriegn, shipped internationally, and sold in America without it benefitting American workers at some point. To boycot Citgo because “Citgo’s gas comes from Venezuela” would likely hurt more Americans than Venezuelans.
What locally based and owned refineriers are out that there, in PA or America for that matter?
If you look at this way...the ONLY 100% pure American gas station is Crown, That company is based in Maryland, and gets all its crude out of Texas, refined in Texas, and sent to the East coast..... AMOCO is owned by BP - British Petrolium, Citgo is Venezuelan, Shell is owned by a UK conglomerate (Royal Dutch), Chevron draws a lot of its crude from Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela, Hess is owned by PowerGen - a UK company, Sheetz gets about as much of its gas from the Middle East as Citgo gets from Venezuela - they buy through a broker that gets refined gas from all over the world, Exxon / Mobile is Texas based, but drills world wide (and foreigners operate the rigs, ships, refineries, etc). Texaco is also American based, but destroyed Ecuador with its drilling practices, and takes oil from and employs other nationals in 24 countires besides the US. Rutters gets its gas from Sunoco - which is ultimately owned by SunCor Energy, or a Canadian owned company. Phillps 66 is owned by Conoco, Inc which is American based, but draws its oil (gas) and employs from China, Kazakhstan, Nigeria the North Sea (UK) Southeast Asia, the Timor Sea and Venezuela. I can really go on and on about any “gas station” you want....but by the looks of it...you are buying Crown or you are walking if buying American is your point.
“Buy fuel locally to help keep the taxes down” - Yes - The state sets the taxes. Taxing gas has nothing to do with where we buy it, and who we buy it from. It comes from the state’s need to generate revenue, and since everyone needs gas, why not tax it? Its the easiest way to increase income for the state. Currently, the national average for taxes levied against a gallon of gas is 40% higher than the actual cost of the gas itself. So if Shell is selling 87 octane at 1.61 a gallon, about 64.4 cents of that is due to taxes...or if there were no tax on gas, you would pay 96 cents a gallon. Since we live close to the state line, and many of us travel into MD for business and pleasure, you may notice the cheaper gas at some places, but there is no point to fill up in MD, you are only paying MD tax - and that does not help the people in PA.
