You are invited to Stewartstown United Methodist Church
to join a discussion of the
Da Vinci Code.

We will be looking at issues raised by the book and the movie using a four week video-study with Lee Strobel. Come each Sunday 9:45-10:45 a.m. starting April 30.  We will meet in the Church Library.

It’s disappointing that a religious organization is even giving this work of fiction their efforts.  What’s next?  Let’s evaluate Alice in Wonderland?

Why not address the difficulties with local youth?

Now Caroline, Alice in Wonderland is a bit off topic for a Christian church. However th Da Vinci Code is very on topic.

Why discuss Da Vinci Code? Simple - the information that refutes the Da Vinci code is the same information that’s been handed down from generation to generation for over 2,000 years and even beyond. A study of exactly what *did* happen within the 30 years after Christ’s death is key to the truth of the New Testament and this book is a great opportunity to allow many (who have been otherwise uninterested in Christ) to consider and realize the truth of Jesus - clearly of eternal importance. I applaud the SUMC for reaching out in this way.

Can’t think of anything better for local youth. Also, you should check out the activities of the youth groups of the local churches. Stewartstown Baptist has an amazing youth group and group of amazing youth that meets at that church Wednesday night. Believe me, you would be amazed (and heartened). If you don’t beleive me, go check it out for yourself. Seriously.

Last I checked it was possible for a church to do things for the youth and… get this… other things too!  At the same time even!  Church’s are allowed to do more than just charity work.
If you’re against Christianity you don’t need the Da Vinci code to validate your belief.  Let people who want to debate it debate it, and let people who are either uninterested or afraid of intillectual thought sit at home and do something else.  Everybody wins!  I’m sure there are plenty of people who just don’t care about it - and there’s nothing wrong with that!  But there’s nothing wrong with analyzing and discussing it either.

With all scriptural beliefs aside, I find the Da Vinci code and other historical theories fascinating.  I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but things like this are interesting to learn about and debate.
