Hi Folks,

I just found out late this afternoon that if anyone is planning on visiting the old court house on Market Street Friday, do not bring your cell phone or you won’t be admitted. Court is going to be held there tomorrow and anyone that comes to the old court house will go through a wand searching I was told.

I have a problem with court being held there tomorrow and that is why is court being held in the old court house when county taxpayers footed the tab for a multimillion dollar new court house? County taxpayers are still footing the tab for that state of the art court house because of all the mistakes made by incompetent contractors.

Best regards,

“J”

I know in MD courthouses you can’t bring a cell phone.  You have to pass through an airport security type full body scanner.

No cameras either.  They don’t hold your stuff at the door either (like they will in Md), so walk it all the way back to your car and hope you are not late for court.

When the old court house was renovated, they kept the courtroom on the second floor to be used occasionally. I work in the building and I don’t have a problem with court being held there. It is a beautiful room and should be used occasionally. Since court was being held this week, security was a bit tighter - and I don’t mind that. I’d rather have a safe and secure work environment. Sorry if you felt inconvenienced.

They didn’t hold my stuff at the desk in MD, I had to walk it three blocks back to my car.

Actually, I recall an article from back in June the York Daily Record had where people were stashing cellphones in the bushes due to the cellphone ban at the courtouse smile Seems people caught on and phones were getting stole, so I guess walking them back to the car is the best option smile

How are cellphones dangerous?  That’s a complete over reaction, designed to make people feel safe, not necessarily be safe.

There’s a great term for illogical measures:  security theater.

Cell phones are not restricted due to security issues… it is the law that court cases are not to be recorded. If someone had a cell phone, they could make a call and thus broadcast a court case potentially.

Of course, if the York County courts were customer focused, they would provide lockers or a storage system for these devices. It is not that difficult.

Under this line of thinking,
All Laptops should be banned.
Modern laptops have recording capabilities.

The act of recording is prohibited.  A cell phone is not a
recording device alone.

Who ever said governments thought intelligently? Look at TSA for a great example of that!
