I went to the Galleria Mall this morning and was very disappointed that the mall has a great many leaks and water damage to many of the stores. TumbleTown was closed because of the leaks. Trash cans line the walkways to catch the dripping. It’s really sad to see that the mall is in such sad shape. I spoke to a few of the employees and they said that the management “patches up” the spots but never fix the roof. I hope this gets corrected.
I agree w/you “momof2boys”. I like the Galleria Mall and would like to see it in better shape. I cannot stand to go to Towson Town Center. Way over rated and way over priced! If the Galleria Mall doesn’t have what I need, I would rather ride a little farther and go to either Park City or White Marsh.
My daughter was supposed to attend a Birthday Party at Tumbletown this weekend however it was cancelled due to a leaky roof.
While it is possible the mall management is keeping it’s monthly maintenace bills low, Tumbletown lost a client.
Chances are good that those parents will attend a party someplace else, and perhaps never get to Tumbletown again.
If each birthday party has 10 kids and 2 kids decide to have their party there you can see however a single party lost could
eliminate 10-20 future parties. One year difference and those kids will want something completly different.
It’s funny how leaky roof can just snowball into lost customers for the tenants.
This past weekend I noticed a lot of construction going on near the Galleria Mall - I think it’s Rt. 24 - right as it crosses over Market Street and continues past the mall.... I’m geographically challenged, so I hope I’ve named the right road. Anyway, a sign said something about a Town Center..... Could we be getting something like a Hunt Valley Town Center and perhaps the mall is going to die? Has anyone else seen this?
There is a “town center” for lack of a better term going in south of Rt 30 on Rt 24 at the old Bon-Ton warehouse site. There are many major anchors lined up. Some names that have been thrown about include Dicks and Staples along with a slew of restaurants. Other names have been thrown around but I don’t recall them. None of the Galleria’s stores were in the listing.
It is not just malls. Look at all the office property they spec build right next to empty buildings. There are tons of open places in Hunt Valley right now yet they still keep building.
The only thing I can say about this new facility is that they are building to attract new businesses to the area. From what I gather, none of the ones so far plan on closing their other locations. They are looking to spread out to attract business from both sides of town. In some ways, that could be good since traffic on 30 is miserable even on the weekend.

I did hear that B Dalton’s will be opening a store in the new development. That is why the bookstore in the Galleria is closing down. Again, that is just a rumor. I also heard the new development will include a Best Buy.
The town center is similar to the Avenues in White Marsh. I’m not sure exactly what stores are planning to go in there, but I’ve heard Best Buy was one of them.
Sorry, I mistyped about the town center being similar to the Avenues. After some research, the name of it is York Town Center and these stores were proposed to be located there: Bed, Bath & Beyond, Ross Dress for Less, Barnes & Nobles, Best Buy, Dicks, and Marshalls. There is also an area for smaller shops and several larger spaces for more “big” stores. At last report, one of the proposed stores has pulled out, but I don’t know for sure which one.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. and LANCASTER, Pa. (September 22, 2006) – CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. (NYSE: CBL) and High Real Estate Group, LLC today held the official groundbreaking ceremony for York Town Center in York (Springettsbury Township), PA. Christmas Tree Shops and On The Border are the latest retailer and restaurant to join the 291,000-square-foot shopping center development. York Town Center will also feature Dick’s Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Ross Dress for Less, Bed Bath & Beyond, Staples, an additional anchor and 84,000 square feet of small shops and outparcels, including such retailers and restaurants as Ulta Cosmetics, Chili’s, and Longhorn Steakhouse. The center is currently 90% leased and committed and a grand opening celebration is planned for September 2007.
So its just another Main Street USA. I will complain like everyone else and say that it is terrible and they shouldn’t build more stores, etc. Then a few months after it opens I will be there shopping with everyone else.

Sadly enough, you are right.
In the remote chance a developer of this place is reading....more parking spaces. The Avenue and the Thing at Hunt Valley are horribly short on parking.

A leaky roof can snowball into a lot more than a loss of customers...just ask my friends who have two kids who will sufer the rest of their lives from a chronic illness due to poor maintenance on a leaky roof! I’m impressed that the mall is taking care of the issue. Hopefully, it will be done the right way and not the fastest and cheapest way possible.
