SYC Life has a pretty basic events calendar with upcoming events displayed on the main page and a fuller calendar of events on a secondary page.  I’m considering 2 options and wonder what you think (I know this community has opinions!  wink ).

Option 1: Scrap the events calendar altogether in favor of either an events forum or just letting people post their events in the appropriate existing forum (as many people do now).  I would then highlight selected events on the home page with a link to the forum.

Option 2: Beef up the events calendar.

I’m leaning towards one of these, but am wondering what you think would work best for SYC Life.  Thanks for your help!

I vote for Option 1 - people will probably continue to post in the regular forum, but I like the idea of an events forum.

I also vote for Option 1 at least for right now.  The forum is not overcrowded at the moment and there aren’t too many posted events to sort out.  Perhaps in the future adding to the events calendar would be appropriate.  Currently I enjoy reading the narratives of the events that are posted.

Ummm, there is an events calendar?? Just kidding, I saw it there once. I vote for Option 1. I don’t even go to the main page that much. I have the forum bookmarked and go straight there.

#1 for me as well, historically I’ve posted events in the actual forums as they get the traffic and views and that’s what most do.  Never see you post much Dan but wanted to say thanks for what you do here, I’ve always appreciated the forum and the work you’ve done on it.  It is appreciated.

So far it’s unanimous.  That’s the direction I’ve been leaning as well.  By design the forum is the central feature of the site and the area that I really tried to beef up in the last major makeover, so might as well take advantage of that.  And I’m terrible at keeping new items on the home page!

Thanks.  Yeah, I don’t post much...something to do with maintaining neutrality as the moderator I guess (not that I’ve always succeeded at this).  What I really appreciate are the very informed people who post regularly, expecially those adept at respecting others in the process.  I’m always learning things and getting different sides of issues by reading the forums.  It is you regulars who make this thing work!

I have removed the events calendar from the site in favor of simply letting everyone post community events in the appropriate general forum.  The section of the site home page that showed events now shows recent forum posts.
