Like John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Princess Diana, I remember where I was and what I was doing when Elvis passed away. Hard to believe it is now 30 years since his passing. I’m a total Elvis Fan, my TV room is a mini Elvis shrine with EPE Gold Records and other Elvis goodies. Every August I watch old Elvis movies, listen to his music and remember the King of Rock & Roll. Even John Lennon was an Elvis fan.  The music world has never been the same since he died. TCB and long live his memory.

I grew up listening to Elvis Presley, with my Mom having most of the albums.  As a musician, drummer, and singer, I’ve never had anything but respect for him musicially.  As a vocalist, his style was beyond unique, and his gospel background gave him a different take on almost anything he touched.  Sadly, it always seems like the best also are the most troubled.  There’s nothing like the King, there never will be again.  I distinctly remember being 6 years old, watching TV, and non-chalantly proclaiming to my Mom who was in the kitchen “Hey Mom, Elvis is dead”....had I been older I might have softened that approach a little bit.  I’ll still take the time to watch any of his movies when they are on, and I particularly love some of the more ridiculous ones like Harum Scarum smile While I can look at his discography and appreciate the whole breadth of it, the only album I still listen to regularly of his is Elvis’ Christmas Album.  I’m pretty sure we had the 60’s reissued RCA Camden version growing up.  I’ve now got it on cd and once it starts to get cold after Halloween, I’ll put that CD and a couple of others in the car where they will live straight through until Christmas.  The others along with Elvis normally are....

GRP Christmas Collection Volume I

GRP Christmas Collection Volume II

Christmas with Buck Owens

Jim Reeves - Twelve Songs of Christmas

Sorry for the minor Elvis diversion into Christmas!!!!!

I absolutely loved Elvis when I was growing up.  I like everything about him, but of course I was just a “teenybpper” at the time.  He did have a troubled life, but man could he sing!  My favorite movies were “Love Me Tender” and “Blue Hawaii”, although looking back, most of his movies were basically all the same movie, with different girls, and places, but the same basic plot.
