I was recently told that my sons school bus stop that he has used for 7 years, would no longer be a bus, he will have to walk 3 driveways down to the next stop. We have had no new kids move on the road nothing has changed except his stop. The next stop 1 boy gets on who is 16 years and the next stop is one drive way away from that one and the girl that gets on there is in high school also.  I did’nt think it make much sence that they are making my 12 year old walk down a busy road with no sholder to walk in like Hickory Road. The speed limit on this road is 35 but the cars some times go so fast probably about 50. It is also on a curve. Needless to say I am very concerned about my sons safty.  I could drive him to the bus stop, which would be very inconvenient for be concidering I also have 2 small children, but even if i did drive him and wait with him for the bus there is no place for me to pull off the road unless i pulled on my neighbors grass. I’m sure they would not appreciate that after a school year there grass would be distroyed from my tires.
So my first step was to call the Director of Transportation for southeastern schools. She was no help, she did not want to hear any of my concerns and told me “she has 3,000 kids to get to school she can not be concerned the safty of 1 child.”
So my second step was to call the Superintendent of Southeastern schools, he was not much help either. He told me that the bus driver drove the route and decided that I made more sence for my son to walk then for him to make that stop.
What would that have taken him an extra 30 seconds. I did not think a bus driver should be the one to decide how safe it would be for my son to walk out in the road. He told me that “ I could attend a board meeting and try to talk to the board members but they would just ask him or the transportation director and they would tell them that they have already checked it out and have decided to keep the bus stops as they are”
I am very upset about this matter I do not let my son ride his bike in the road or even go out in to the road for a ball. And as of Sept. 2 I am suposed to be confortable with letting him walk down the road for the bus stop.
I thought people that work with children should have the best interest for the child not for saving money in the budget.  I am not trying to create a new bus stop I just want my son to have the same stop that he has had for the last 7 years.
If there is anyone out there who is having the same problem could you let me know, may be we could get together and voice our concerns together.
Or if there is any one who has any suggestion about what my next step would be to try to resolve my problem.
A very concerned Mother

Thanks for your coments cracked, you are the fool. You are probably one of those people that speed down my road.  I agree there are worse things then having your child walk 3 driveways for the bus stop. But there is no worse thing that could happen to a person then to loose a child.  That was may concern, that may son will be hit by one of the fools that think this road is a speed way .

So you should grow up and only reply to the subjects that really concern you.

Any way I was not asking for anyones insults.
I thought maybe there was someone else out there that was having the same problem with this school disctrict that is supposed to care about our kids safty. Thats a joke!

To you cracked I guess you did not hear about the man who was killed 2 weeks ago on plank road. He was hit by 2 cars neither one of them stopped after they hit him.  He left a wife and 3 children behind.

Which township is Hickory Road located in-- Hopewell or East Hopewell?

I understand your concern for your son’s safety but school bus drivers are consulted about bus stops before the schedule is prepared each school year.

I think you should follow the school superintendent’s advice and attend a school board meeting to address this issue. The school superintendent is not a voting member of the school board. There are 9 individuals that sit on the school board. Three of them represent your region. They are all elected by the voters not by the school superintendent.

Are there any other parents on your road that are upset over the bus stop being moved? If so, you might want to ask them to attend the school board meeting with you.

The townships have no control over drivers speeding on roads. This is an issue that you will have to take up with the state police. Call them and tell them the time of day that speeders usually travel that road and ask them to come down and observe the situtation.

As for the guy that was hit on Plank Road a couple of weeks ago, he wasn’t walking. You must have him confused with the guy that was hit on Lucky Road who was walking back from a party. The guy that was hit on Plank Road was driving a motorcycle. He wasn’t married, he was divorced. One of the drivers that hit him has been apprehended and the state police are still looking for the other person in another vehicle that hit him.

my daughter is 5 years old . we are 12 houses or driveways from her stop. everyone in our development(30 house or so) has to walk or drive to take their chidren to the bus stop, EVERYONE!  which is directly on rt 851 where the speed limit if 40 mph. i’m personally not happy with her stop being on a busy rt/highway , but thats where it is. to change it would mean they would have to do it for all the kids , which includes high school middle school, & elementary. that would be about60 or more students.they are not willing to do that. as far as dangerous, a older man passes the bus the other day while it was stopped and loading kindergarten kids!  rt 851 is very dangerous but for some reason it seems to be where the school chooses to pick kids up. i would trade stops with you anyday! i wish i only had to go 3 driveways away , or the bus would come that close to my house. they will change bus stops when someone is hurt or killed, but that seems to be the pace around here.  good luck! and i hear ya! snake
