I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations or reviews of doctors in the area.

I have been going to Shrewsbury Family Practice on Old Farm Road for about a year.  I have “tried” two of the three doctors in that office and I am NOT IMPRESSED!!!  Maybe my expectations are too high, but as a woman, I don’t want to be treated like a farm animal during my regular exams!!

My last doctor in Chester County was amazing!  He was friendly, knowledgeable, and did such an excellent job in communicating and recommending treatment regimens.  I could call/email he or his nurse anytime and I felt very comfortable in all aspects of care.  Am I asking too much to get similar care from a doctor in this area?  I really don’t think I am!

Aside from my rant, I’m honestly looking for guidance from other women in this area in finding a (better) doctor. PM or email me: if you don’t want to post on the forum!  Thanks!

I have been going to Southern Family Medicine.  They are in the building across from Wal-Mart.  Both Doctor’s are women and I recommend them both.  I take my daughter (8 y/o) and she likes them too.  The phone # is 717-227-3800.  They also have a web site - http://www.SouthernFamilyMed.com Hope this helps.

To be quite honest, I think health care in Maryland is better. Yes, this is based on prior family experience over the years. All of our doctors are in Maryland. Yes, I would rather drive to Towson to my children’s pediatrician than go to one in PA. Also, when we moved to PA from northern Balt. Co. 5 &1;/2 years ago, I did not want to switch doctors. I like the doctors we have in MD. My primary care doctor is in Hereford, Dr. Gattuso. It’s only a 20 minute drive from Stewartstown and well worth it. I prefer GBMC and St. Josephs over York Hospital too. My gyn is at GBMC.

I am not alone in my preferences. My sister and best friend also live in PA and they too go to doctors in MD. I guess it’s just a personal preference and in some cases, a matter of prior experience.

Regarding the doctors at Shrewsbury Family Practice, they misdiagnosed my other best friends 12 yr. old daughter last year. I won’t give the details but, I would never go there!

I think this practice is excellent.  As good or better than anything in Maryland:

Spring Valley Family Medicine

It is located in the Stonebridge Park.  They are associated with York Hospital.  The other hospital, York Memorial, we found to be pretty sub-standard, especially for children.

i used to use this practice as my primary health care provider.  but to be honest cutti is an ***.  he refused to sign my learners permit application a few years back.  i still payed the copay.  what a *****.  he just comes off as if he thinks he’s superior to other people.  i feel sorry for him.  my advice would be to go elsewhere.

I have never had a problem with this doctor. he has always been nice and very helpful with me. He was actually the first doctor that I thought was actually listening. And as far as the co-pay goes, of course you would still have to pay it. Whether he signs or not, if you were seen, you have to pay.

What is it the doctor has to sign for a learner’s permit?

I take my children to Dr. Taylor @ Spring Valley Family Medicine.  He has been wonderful and always listens to my concerns and takes time to really evaluate the kids.  I think he is fairly new to this practice (as are we).

As far as my OBGYN, I’m sticking with my doctor in Timonium, MD (Dr. Pegues).  I don’t mind the drive a few times a year to maintain the quality of care I have grown to trust.

I used to go to Shrewsbury Family Practice - had some bad experiences there ( my daughter fell off the exam table after passing out from a shot) so I switched to Spring valley - one doctor (McCarty?) refused to listen to me when I tried to explain my symptoms and was insistent that I was suffering from depression- which I was not.  I’ve switched to Southern Family Medicine and I absolutely love it!  I would very highly recommend them to anyone.

I also visited with Dr. Schlenoff when she was with Shrewsbury Family Practice a few years ago.  She was smart enough to leave them!  She was very good also and if you are looking for a doctor in Maryland I would recommend her.

I have used White Rose Family Practice in Leaders Heights for 12 years and have never had a better Dr.  Not quite as local as most, but well worth the trip.  I dont know if they are taking new patients at this time though.

I have only been once (never went to the Dr. in this area until this year) but I chose Dr. Taylor on a friend’s recommendation and also thought he was a nice guy and was willing to listen without a superior attitude.  I was just in for a routine physical so there wasn’t any treatment/diagnoses to evaluate him on, but friendly is a good start!
