Does anyone have any experience with those tub replacements that mold a new tub cover and wall wrap around that you see the commercials for on television? They also have a place in the mall that sells them. But I was wondering if they are worth the money. We have a worn tub and insert that I would like to replace altogether after 15 years, but I don’t know who to trust for dependable workmanship. Any suggestions out there from people who know....maybe just someone who can do the work with a new purchased tub and insert instead of the molded type.

We had Bathfitter do our main bathroom 2 & 1/2 years ago.  It was money well spent!  We love it!  It looks great and is easy to clean.  Total cost was about $3,000.00 Our house is old, c. 1922 and the previous owner had put that really cheap bathroom paneling that looks like tile around the tub.  It was a shoddy job and the paneling was absorbing water at the bottom.  It was looking really gross.  We were also concerned about moisture getting behind it and feared we would have to tear out walls if we did not do something fast.  Bathfitter was the perfect solution.  With it you also get a new shower head and faucet.  All Moen products which my husband swears is the best.  He used to do plumbing.  It also comes with a lifetime warranty as long you own the home.  They will come fix any plumbing issues related to it as well.

The representative that came to our house was very nice and took his time explaining everything to us and patiently answered our many questions.

Dodger22, if you would like to pm me your e-mail address, I will be happy to send you our before and after pictures.

We used Bathfitter too when we sold our MD house in 2000, it looked great and really helped with the resale.  They did a thourough inspection and had to replace some of the wall around the old faucets and it was very affordable.  They have a lot of options and they do complete the installation within just a few hours.

i went and bought a new tub with the 3 wallls that fit into it and remodellled it alll myself… total cost for alll materials including walllboard, screws, caulk, paint, etc = right around $500

i don’t seee the point in spending $3,000 just for a tub…

Well, it was not just the tub.  It was the seamless wall molded specifically to fit our bathroom and new faucet, shower head, drain, curved curtain rod, two shelves and a safety bar.  Also, Bathfitter uses glue that always stays soft and never gets dry & hard.  That was part of the problem with the cheap paneling stuff the previous owner had used.  The paneling had partially pulled away from the wall.  Plus, the material that Bathfitter uses is scratch resistant and is always warm to the touch.  It was all done in a few hours with minmal mess to clean up.

Not that my husband could not have done it as you did Brian but, I’d STILL be waiting!!!!!!!  I would be nagging him, we would be fighting and if he ever did get around to it, he would have been messy and I would’ve had to clean up.  I already have a list of projects for him.

Sometimes it’s just worth it to pay for convenience.  Plus, I do think it’s better quality than the do-it yourself stuff from the home improvement stores.  And, everything Bathfitter did has a lifetime warranty.

Yes, I was wondering what the cost difference was, between a place like Bathfitters and doing it ourselves. My husband is capable of doing it as well, but there is always that time factor. We need a new tub, surround and possibly replacing the window over top the tub. He works a lot these days and it’s a room that can’t be torn apart for long, especially when you only have one bathroom, for the most part. I wonder how that compares to having a private person come in and do the work, with just a tub, window, surround, etc.

Who if any, in the area, does quality workmanship and is dependable?

In response to your bathroom remodel, I am a local contractor and have my own home improvement business, which is listed in the business listing.  If you would like to contact me to discuss remodeling your bathroom, I would be happy to come to your home and give you an estimate.  I can also provide references.
Thank you
