The drive-in movie was located where the Old Trail Vet’s office is.  The road next to it is called Theater Drive.  Apparently at one time they showed x-rated movies there, which could be seen from I-83 (or so I’ve been told by people that have lived here much, much longer than me.) The theater had recently closed when I moved to the area in 1986.

My in-laws used to own the Old Trail Restaurant located next to the old Shrewsbury Drive In. The restaurant along with the drive in are gone, now history. If I recall clearly, it was the first Drive In my wife and I went to when we first starting dating. As kids we had a blast at that Drive In, we even put our friends in the trunk to avoid the entrance charge (hey, we were kids). When they started to show the X rated movies, cars would line up a mile long on the shoulder of I-83 and sit there to watch the movies later to be chased off by the State Police. One of my best friends used to live in the actual movie screen. I remember going to visit him in the summer, and the apartment inside the screen (all metal) would have temperatures over 100 degrees. Yes, no air conditioner, no place to put it. The Shrewsbury Drive In, Lincoln Drive In, Columbia Drive In, Timonium Drive In, Stony Brook Drive In, They are all “Dark” now, just a memory, but a good one.
