I grew up listening to Elvis Presley, with my Mom having most of the albums. As a musician, drummer, and singer, I’ve never had anything but respect for him musicially. As a vocalist, his style was beyond unique, and his gospel background gave him a different take on almost anything he touched. Sadly, it always seems like the best also are the most troubled. There’s nothing like the King, there never will be again. I distinctly remember being 6 years old, watching TV, and non-chalantly proclaiming to my Mom who was in the kitchen “Hey Mom, Elvis is dead”....had I been older I might have softened that approach a little bit. I’ll still take the time to watch any of his movies when they are on, and I particularly love some of the more ridiculous ones like Harum Scarum
While I can look at his discography and appreciate the whole breadth of it, the only album I still listen to regularly of his is Elvis’ Christmas Album. I’m pretty sure we had the 60’s reissued RCA Camden version growing up. I’ve now got it on cd and once it starts to get cold after Halloween, I’ll put that CD and a couple of others in the car where they will live straight through until Christmas. The others along with Elvis normally are....
GRP Christmas Collection Volume I
GRP Christmas Collection Volume II
Christmas with Buck Owens
Jim Reeves - Twelve Songs of Christmas
Sorry for the minor Elvis diversion into Christmas!!!!!
