OK, I know that many of you on here are anti-Wal-Mart all the way.  And while I do shop there, I totally understand your points.  They come in, run the local businesses out, etc.  It’s survival of the fittest, and we, via the boards that we elect, allow the zoning for them to come.

ANYWAY....

As some of you have seen by my other post, we found a lost dog Saturday evening.  Since we found her along Plank Road, we put Found Dog posters up in Stewartstown and Shrewsbury, thinking that it’s likely whatever family she came from could’ve been from either town, and that if they’re looking, we’d double the amount of spots they could find her in.  So we hit the convenience stores, gas stations, Saubel’s (both), did some door to door looking, etc.  When we got to Wal-Mart (which you have to admit - most of the people in those two towns hit at some point) we were told “Sorry, we don’t allow that”.  I was floored!!

Here’s the biggest chain store in the area, a place that’s frequented by the bulk of the residents (and like me, some shop there because it’s convenient and cheap), that wouldn’t give enough back to the community to put a piece of cork up on the wall to stick lost/found flyers on.  Now, I understand that it can get out of hand, but at Saubel’s, they don’t allow just anything up there.  So why can’t Wal-Mart, in its’ infinite wealth, put up a bulletin board?  And if they’re so worried about it being clustered, they could keep it under glass, and only put up manager approved materials/signs.  They can’t spare the manpower for someone to take 20 minutes a week to manage that???

Just totally opened my eyes to ridiculousness that can be Wal-Mart.

Will I NEVER shop there again?  I can’t say for sure.  But am I going to do my best to move all of my business elsewhere?  You betcha.  Will Wal-Mart care?  Nope, they’ve only lost one customer, and for losing me they’ll gain 5 more that move into the area.

When I get time this week (after dealing with finding a home for the above mentioned dog, going to work, school and a funeral), I’m going to call or write.  I’m sure it’ll get me nowhere, but maybe I’ll feel better.

Okay, soapbox is empty for whoever needs it.

Bobby,
Please drop off flyer at The Pet Shoppe @11 E. Tolna Rd if you have a chance.
We get alot of people coming/ calling the store looking for their animals.
Maybe one of our customer will recogize the dog.
And we do have a board to post lost & found.......
Thanks, Gina

That is unbelivable Bobby.  I hate Wal-mart too but, unfortunately, I do need to go there sometimes.  I still do the bulk of my grocery shopping at the Giant though.  I just can’t stand grocery shopping at Wal-Mart.  It’s too crowded, the aisles are narrow, people are rude, kids are screaming, etc.  And, they don’t have a big selection of stuff and don’t carry a lot of the regular stuff that I buy.  It’s also not logically organized.  And now this is just one more mark against them in my opinion.

Anyway, I did see your poster at the Giant Bobby.  And I commend you for helping that dog and doing what you can to find the owner.  You could also check with Animal Rescue to see if the could post something in their Petfinder section.  I know they do post lost dogs for people.

Good luck!

I dislike Wal-Mart for mainly one reason: 15 checkouts but only 3 open, been that way since the day it opened, ridiculous.

Thanks, I volunteer at Animal Rescue, so I took her up there Sat. to see if she was chipped, which she wasn’t, so I filled out a Found Dog form in case someone calls there looking for her.

I have found dogs before (seems like they’re drawn to us on holiday weekends - last year it was July 4th), but this one was definitely friendly and used to being in a house.  Wasn’t dirty, seemed well fed and taken care of, so I’m sure she belongs to someone.  Hopefully they find her soon!

I hope her family finds her!  Strays seem to be attracted to us too.  I think they sense that we are animal lovers.  Speaking of dogs, we had to put our beloved dog, Mia to sleep last Monday.  She had severe degenerative Osteo-Arthritis.  She took her last steps on Sat. a.m. on 8/25 and then collapsed on our kitchen floor.  It broke our hearts but, we could not let her suffer.  She was a very specail dog.  We still have our Boxer and we are going to start looking in the shelters for another dog.  Our Boxer boy needs a buddy and we need to fill the empty holes in our hearts.  Sorry but, my hubby does not want a Beagle.
