Have you seen the board agenda for Thursday’s meeting?  Apparently the superintendent is up for a raise and a yearly bonus of $5,000.00.  Does anyone know what a superintendent would receive a bonus for?

For the same reason South Eastern employees receive severance pay along with their pension?

I don’t understand.  Are you saying a raise and bonus are part of the superintendent’s retirement plan?  Why wouldn’t it be stated that way?

Probably for doing an excellent job.  The raise seems perfectly reasonable to me.  I believe our teachers are guaranteed over 5% annually in their current contract.  The superintendent is getting 4%.  There’s nothing wrong with rewarding performance with a raise and a bounus.

It seems to be a decent raise and bonus.  I dont see anything wrong with it.

Maybe the raise is because we are number one in York County for resignations!!!

No, that was said tongue in cheek.  SESD’s employees receive severance pay when they retire, along with their pension, which is ludicrous to me.  Since we do not currently have an assistant superintendent, it’s certainly a lot less expensive to give Dr. Shank a $5K bonus plus a 4% raise.

I completely agree with Marge.  Dr. Shank is doing the work of more than a superintendent and assistant superintendent put together.  Sure seems like a bargain to me.
