As we have done for the past 3 years, several members of the Eureka Fire Company will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by shaving our heads to raise money to help cure childhood cancer.  We are asking you, the community, for your support in this worthy cause, if possible.

The charity is called St. Baldrick’s and our local festivities will take place April 13, 2008 in Manchester, PA.  Since 2005, the Eureka 54 team has raised over $34,000 for children with cancer.  We have consistently been the top fundraising team in the Central PA region and could not have accomplished this feat without the generosity of individuals like yourself.  Along the way, we have forged a solid relationship with the faculty, students, and staff of the Stewartstown Elementary School.  Several students and faculty are participating in this event as well.  In fact, we are exploring the possibility of conducting our head shaving this year right here in Stewartstown!

The Eureka Fire Company gladly supports this effort and the community, whose assistance and generosity allow us to perform our duties with pride. Please know that donations to St. Baldrick’s are strictly for the charity. Let’s make St. Baldrick’s 2008 our biggest yet!

Your donation to St. Baldrick’s is tax deductible.  If you donate by credit card or submit a donation form with your check or cash donation, you will automatically receive a statement from St. Baldrick’s for tax reporting purposes!  The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is an independent, IRS approved, 501(c)(3) organization, Federal ID # 20-1173824.

What is St. Baldrick’s?

Since its inception in 2000, St. Baldrick’s has raised more than $34 million and grown into the world’s best-known program for childhood cancer research.  If you weren’t aware, childhood cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children.  Today, through the advancements in diagnosis and treatment, 77 percent of the children with cancer can now be cured.  That also means 23 percent will lose their battle.  There is still a lot of work to be done.

Where does my money go?

You will be happy to know that the entire St. Baldrick’s operation is run by only 2 full-time and 5 part-time staffers.  What does that mean?  It means an extremely low overhead, unlike most charities!  The primary beneficiary of St. Baldrick’s is CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation - which supports CureSearch Children’s Oncology Group - the world’s foremost childhood cancer research organization.

THANKS!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  The St. Baldrick’s website, http://www.stbaldricks.org is also a great place to learn more.  I thank you in advance for your consideration and support!  Please pass along to anyone you think may be interested in donating!
