I noticed today that there is a sign approximately in front of the Shrewsbury Saubel’s that states that “TRUCKS MUST USE WESTBOUND TRUCK ROUTE 851.” What that means is that westbound trucks must turn left at the Trail and proceed down to Constitution Avenue and then head west on Truck Route 851 through New Freedom.
My question is this: Why can’t a similar sign be posted along Main Street in Stewartstown notifying truckers that they must use WESTBOUND TRUCK ROUTE 851, which would take them north on Main Street to Plank Road, west on Plank Road, to Airy Rd., etc? This would keep trucks from turning left at West Pennsylvania Avenue blocking the intersection at West Pennsylvania and Main Street.
Last summer when Chief Cunningham held a community meeting at Eureka, this question was posed and the stock answer of “we’re working on it” came back. How long does it take to work on this? Shrewsbury seemed to have handled this fairly simply. Of course, this would mean the police have to enforce the new rule or it would be meaningless.
And, by the way, similar signage should be placed over at I-83, Exit 4 notifying truckers to use the truck route eastbound as well.
