Check out this article in the Dispatch.  SESD is one of the most efficiently run school districts in the county.

It really should be no surpise that York County school districts are efficiently run.  Ever since the state’s funding formula was frozen in the early 90’s, state funding to our schools has not kept pace with rising costs.  Growing school districts like those in York County have had to learn to cut costs and make due with less.  Yes, our taxes keep going up but not because SESD is being frivolous.  It’s due to PA not adequatley funding our schools.  The state covers approx. 33% of costs these days, down from 50% before the funding formula was frozen.  So when you want to gripe about your property tax bill, focus your anger at Harrisburg.

Interesting.....Looks like according to PA Dept of ed, SESD is not only doing a job “well done” when it comes to the PSSA scores, we are also consider efficient compared to other schools when it comes to using our hard earned money. Since people like to compare our school w/southern(-4) compared to SESD (9), I say “well done” to last year’s SB and current admin, I am sure it is not easy to work w/what the state gives you as far as money.  The state just gives out more mandates w/o the money to go with it. So guess who has to pay for it? the taxpayer!  As taxpayers, we not only need to watch how the board spends it, but Harrisburg leaders need to know we can not continue this way in the future unless they do something about REAL propert tax relief.

It’s too quiet, so I’ll say this much… Use the money efficiently, but not to the extent of justifying not having an Asst. Superintendent to keep the checks and balances in place.  If somebody doesn’t soon see that getting another nose in there to look over Her shoulder, the district is going to be in shambles.

I say, the measureables say it’s working, save the money.  No evidence for the remark district will be in shambles.

The position of Asst Superintendent has not been filled so that the salary, benefits, and budget lines could be transferred to the hiring of additional personnel such as a reading specialist, a teacher, to reduce class size in the elementary schools, and a west guidance counselor to full time.  Besides, who do you think would select and hire the Assistant Superintendent?

I would hope and pray the School Board members, along with the Admin. would...as in any reputable school district.  But, as you say, at SESD, She could put any sly fox she wants in there, couldn’t she?
