I was just informed by a SESD employee good friend of mine today that the district has posted all the emergency cert professionals by name on their website!! What kind of leader would allow this? Even better the classes they have taken towards certification and the money the district has reimbursed each individual is also posted by name on the website. If this is not a crystal clear indication of the type of working conditions these SESD professionals are working in I don’t know what is? Why was that necessary? Even if someone asked Dragon for the names that does not mean you hang your people out to dry! I have never seen a more incompetent leadership style than what has been continually exhibited in SESD. What if someone asks for bra sizes? Will they be posted on the website? You can address inordinate numbers without names. How about some dignity for these employees? One of the names of emergency cert administrators has not even started working at SESD yet - what a nice ‘welcome to the district’. Maybe an explanation as to why the permanent and long term sub emerg cert numbers have doubled from last year rather than intimidating these people in their positions with posting their names. Will they double again next year Dragon?
How are names, emergency certifications and classes reimbursed an indication of the working conditions? Last I checked, all of this information can be obtained through PDE.
I’m thinking that you should take something to get rid of the bitterness that you seem to harbor. It really is not healthy for you to walk around like that.

WoW! It is really good to know that ther are 62 people who signed up be subs in our district (a day here....a day there)! It sounds like we have a good core group of people that are in a position to sub when teachers take personal, vacation, etc… I know I talked to one who subs once in awhile and she stated she has to get her EC every year and it costy $40. State Law. 11 are long term subs and only 12 are perm. By the way, all that info is public knowledge. Tuition reimb. is also public knowlege when we look at the acct pay log at SB meetings. You are making too much out of nothing. SF requested that info.....I wonder if they would post it on their one-sided blog or get someone who does not even live in the district to write a letter to “the star”. Thanks for letting us know about the posting on SED website...it just proved SF is making much out of nothing!!!! As a parent, I would like to say I am glad you do not work for SESD. For someone who claims they do not live in the district and made snotty remarks about their children not going here and claims to be in a leadership role...I think you are the one that needs to look yourself before you get on this forum for the sole purpose to trying to say nasty things about Dr. Shank. People do know what you and SF are trying to do.

I would say they can do it for the same reason their salaries are public knowlwdge: Freedon Of Information Act…
There is a problem when the district feels it is necessary to reimburse teachers that are emergency certified for their education towards a bachelor’s degree in teaching. That is a lot of money coming from taxpayers pockets for tuition reimbursement when there are certified professionals available. If positions were posted in the correct way the district could hire professionals with the education already needed to work in that field. Doesn’t sound logical to me. A lot of money being wasted to give uncertified staff basically a free educational ride.
I am angry. Not at the district. They are doing what is right. I am very angry at FINALLY and Crackle. And when I have finally calmed down enough, I will address this more appropriately.
FINALLY....
1. The information is posted on the section of SESD’s website where answers to other questions from the public are answered. Dr. Shank has received this question several times at School Board meetings. She’s probably tired of answering it, so it is now posted for all to see. All teacher’s salaries are posted online by name, as well as superintendents’ contracts and salaries, also by name, so why not who has emergency permits? It is the Freedom of Information Act that requires it.
2. “What kind of leader would allow this?” The kind who responds to the taxpayers who are paying all these salaries and tuition reimbursements. Besides, as stated, the Freedom of Information Act allows it.
3. How does this intimidate or lessen anyone’s dignity?
CRACKLE…
1. Teachers must already hold a bachelor’s degree in order to be issued an emergency permit.
2. If you read SESD’s website, you would see “The district would only pay for tuition reimbursement for teachers working on an
emergency permit if they were permanent hires of the district - not if they are day to day subs or long term subs.” Although I do not agree with the amount of reimbursement, tuition reimbursement is covered by the teachers’ contract.
Just to clarify, Students First never asked for names of emergency certified teachers and admininstrators. We received the numbers from the Department of Ed and they were cause for concern. I do agree with Finally and think it is a bit over the edge to post the names and other details. Just curious if other districts post their emergency certified names on their websites. It is refreshing to know that SESD does not have 84 emerg certified permanent and long term subs. We also appreciate the response of the majority of those being day to day subs. We gather the facts. Would love to know the answers to the other statistics we presented.

I want to clarify a portion of our presentation regarding SESD Maintenance Policy 704 and Sanitary Management Policy 703. When making the presentation, I stated we know Policy 703 is being followed now, but our presentation encompassed the past 8 years (from construction of KD and the SEMS’ renovations to the present.)
I want to add that Policy 704 is also being followed – inspection of all District properties, written reports and the action necessary to address identified concerns are provided to the Board and updated at each B&G;Committee meeting.
Had this sort of thing been done from the beginning (2001), we would not have the mess that we have now.
One other thing – I attended the B&G;meeting tonight and was provided a written document from Sponaugle with the complete Greenheck exhaust fan model #: GHBSQ-100-LMDX, which does exist. The proposal did not include the complete model #.
Check out the local front page of the York Daily Record. Go SESD community! Reminds me of a phrase “what goes around, comes around”. No student should have to deal with a revolving door of teachers. Good for the parent that questioned it. I am sure the answer was and will continue to be ‘politically correct’. Keep questioning and perhaps you will uncover the TRUTH.
