You know, the last time I remember hearing the words ‘Fine Dining’ associated with a pizza place, the borough voted to allow a liquour license in town, and the promotional stuff said ‘Say Yes to fine dining’.

One would only hope that another liquor license would be issued, but don’t bet the farm on it!

It would be nice to have another place with a liquor license, but they start at $250k and up.  The only way to aquire one is through the secondary market.  All of the York County licenses are gone, so you have to buy one from an existing business.  Now if you want a liquor license in Philly, one can be had for under $50k.  Location, location, location!!!

Here is a question for the official borough folks.  Can you bring in your own beer and wine to an establishment without a liquor license?

Glad i’m moving back home next week to New Hampshire . You can buy everthing but hard booze in grocery stores and gas stations. Hard stuff is run by state liquor stores. Such a pain to buy a six pack a beer here, no wonder you have so many DUI’s here you have to buy atleast a case from case&keg;!!

As long as the restaurant allows it, you can bring your own beer or wine. We always took wine to have with dinner at the old Mamma Marias. No license needed.

Has anyone seen the rhetoric going on over the LCB approving liquour licenses for the Wegmans grocery stores?  The distributors are going crazy over it.  There was also an indication that they were going to begin consideration of alcohol sales at mini marts.

Of course, when I lived up in New England, New Hampshire had an exit off of Interstate 95 just across the Mass/NH border that was only for a liquor store. Sort of looked like a rest stop, but it was a state liquor store. Is it still there?
Talk about encouraging DUI!

Have you ever wondered exactly what exit 37 in MD is for?  Get off going south, and return going north.  Nothing much there aside from a bar/liqour store.

Is odd, but I am sure the MD Line Fire Co appreciates it. The southbound entrance is at 36. Perhaps a land issue where eminent domain did not fit? Its been a small timesaver too when the backup south on 83 starts at the line!

Maryland Line is a town, not just a bar smile Did you know that they have a bank, a fire department, a church, a post office, a gas station, a service center, and lots of homes......if all that is “nothing much” then you’re right!  I spent a lot of my youth in Maryland Line, riding my bike to Thompsons for a slushie or penny candy, going to the motocross races down at the lake, being fascinated at the now defunct old airstrip.  To me Maryland Line is a quaint town with a long history.......personally, I’m sad to see the old fire hall gone, as I helped there much of my youth at turkey oyster suppers.  My grandmother also played organ at the Methodist Church for much of her life so seeing the fire there recently was upsetting too.  So I guess to some it’s an exit and a bar, to others it’s called home smile

Well said Chris.  I am from Parkton, where my parents still live.  I have roots in Maryland Line as my mother’s grandparents and father were from Maryland Line.  When my great grandparents on my mother’s side got married, it was known as “New Market, MD.” If anyone remembers Lefty’s Store (now apartments), that was owned my great uncle Lefty Standiford.  He was my grandfather’s brother. I have relatives and ancestors buried in the cemetary across from Maryland Line Inn too.  In fact, you can see a couple of them from the road.  My 9 yr. old son, who loves history, thinks that is so cool.  My mom, her parents and great grandfather also lived in the red brick house just down from the fire station too.  From there, they moved to Parkton up on “the hill.”

I too was sad to see the fire hall gone.  It was part of history and I feel it was part of family history for me too.

I know that exit has come in quite handy for me many times.  Whether it be to avoid a major traffic back-up on I-83 or to just take the scenic route via Freeland Rd. to my parents house.

So yes, it’s more than just an exit to me too.

By the way Chris, did you go to Hereford?
