There is a suprising amount of military air traffic in our little area. In general, the military aircraft are not required to conform to noise standards that limit aircraft performance. Thus these aircraft are much louder than a civilian plane.
When I was younger, I lived in Guam. During the bombing of Hanoi during the Vietnam war, I used to see the B52’s go roaring down that huge runway and then claw into the sky, fight for every inch of elevation. The sheer volume of sound took your breath away.
Years later, the loudest experience I ever had with an aircraft. I walked out on a sponson (for those non nautical folks, a lower deck on the side of a ship). Just as I got out on the deck, an F14 launched directly over my head with the full afterburner on. I thought I died.
