Does anybody know what type of planes that fly overhead Stewartstown usually 8:30 pm -9:00pm a few times a week. I’m thinking C135’s by what I have told to others. They used to fly overhead on Sunday early evenings before the sun sets. Thanks p.s. They surprise me everytime by how low the fly !!

I dont recall seeing any 135’s, but I have seen the 130H model a lot.  They are often trolling around fueling helicopters.  Maybe doing something with Indian Town Gap.

Is that what they are? They seen to have jet prop. I go righ tover my house a lot.

The A-10 Warthogs fly over my house quite frequently going back and forth from Martin’s to Indiantowne Gap.

I believe they are.  The venerable 130 is a 4 engine Jet Prop.  The 135 is a larger 4 jet engine tanker.  I often see them dragging a refueling drogue.  The A10’s can be seen around the MDT airport a lot.  They do a lot of touch and go there.  Fantastic planes.  Can you tell that I kind of have a thing about planes?  Strange.

I see the 130’s and A10’s a couple of times a week flying around here too.  The first time I saw the 130’s there were about 5 of them at night, and I thought they were flying saucers.  They were almost wing tip to wing tip and they were so big they looked like they were just hovering.  A neat site for sure!  It also seems like the A10’s get a bit frisky sometimes and fly a bit lower at high speeds and that is really cool too.

I’ve been hearing(have not seen them yet) them as well and more frequently than ever before in the Station. They feel like they are coming in lower and lower and at times I’m waiting to hear a crash. I guess its just a paranoid fear these days.

Being a woman, I have no freakin’ clue what kind of planes they are other than some sort of military plane/jet.  They do fly over our house every Weds. or Thurs. evening around 8:30 or 9:00.  I am usually outside with the dog and I try every time to go get my son to see them but, I can never get in quick enough to get him before the second one flies over.  My husband thought maybe they were headed to Dover AFB. ????

They are cool when they fly so low you can see the crew during summer time when the sun is still setting.

There is a suprising amount of military air traffic in our little area.  In general, the military aircraft are not required to conform to noise standards that limit aircraft performance.  Thus these aircraft are much louder than a civilian plane. 

When I was younger, I lived in Guam.  During the bombing of Hanoi during the Vietnam war, I used to see the B52’s go roaring down that huge runway and then claw into the sky, fight for every inch of elevation.  The sheer volume of sound took your breath away. 

Years later, the loudest experience I ever had with an aircraft.  I walked out on a sponson (for those non nautical folks, a lower deck on the side of a ship).  Just as I got out on the deck, an F14 launched directly over my head with the full afterburner on.  I thought I died.

Sorry.  I like planes.

I live across town from the station and after they go over my house they seem to be turning right toward you.  It is so cool to see them flying so low then turning, that angle...Like velvet I am a woman and have no clue what they are, just enjoy watching them going over. What a sight!!

Way back when, long before 9/11 security precautions, you could go to BWI and park right near the end of one of the runways.  Was always fun to lay on the hood looking up and watch them take off.  Set foot near the runways now and I’m sure you’d garner attention quickly

Ahhhh, those were the days.  I grew up in Glen Burnie and the ‘airfield’ was our hang out.  We did get ‘busted’ for loitering from time to time.  Just made to leave, which we did....until the cops were gone.  Actually, there’s a park there now with a playground and bike trail.  You can sit and watch the planes come in.  But it’s just not the same now....

Back home in New Hampshire during high school we use to ride our dirtbikes right up to the runway flood lights the had on the power line trails . Grab a handful of front brake and bury your rear tire in the sand and lay and what the planes come in. Not anymore !! It’s now the size of Philly airport and the largest cargo airport in the northeast.
