Given our location on College Avenue, we get egged a couple of times each year, sadly, Friday night 1/16 between 7:05 and 9:45 it was so cold the whole rear window of our truck was shattered.  So nice to work hard for what we have only to watch people destroy it mad

I’d be interested to hear if any others were vandalized Friday night.

Sorry to hear about that.  Im looking to move into Stewartstown.  Does this happen often?  I used to live in Baltimore and I left for work one morning to find that someone had sat on my hood of my car leaving an imprint.  Or at least that is what it looked like.  About $300 to get the hood replaced.  Maybe once people grow up and have nice vehicles one day they will realize the value of the damage they caused carelessly. KDGIRL22 - check out the police blotters on the home page. It will give you an idea on whats up in Stewartstown. All I can say is that comparing Stewartstown to where I came from, its like comparing night and day.

The above does not justify what Crawdaddy is experiencing as acceptable, but all things considered, depending on where you are moving from, I think you would appreciate the quiet small town life that is Stewartstown - if thats what you are looking for.

I lived in town from 1974 - 1978 and in East Hopewell from 1978 - 1991. I moved back to East Hopewell (the house I lived in before) in 2002. Why? Because no matter what happens around here, it is still less then elsewhere. Crime happens everywhere. Kids (and sometimes adults) act stupid everywhere. It is not excusable, just reality.

I love it here. I have lived in York, Ephrata, Manassas Virginia and Leesburg Virginia. They all had far worse issues then Stewartstown. How many food sized towns out there still don’t have traffic lights? Not many and we are one of them (for now!)

To KDGirl… don’t despair. It is not that bad. To those that seem to have to destroy things - I hope you get caught. It happened to me as a kid… I had some “friends” destroy my clubhouse several times. My father and I sat out one night in a sleet storm and caught them. Justice was served. They almost messed their drawers as a result.

Maybe it is time to consider a neighborhood watch program. They helped in Manassas when I was there. We implemented one in my neighborhood and problems went away fast.

I love this town and would not move away even with the occasional problem we have.  It’s just a shame we can’t park in our driveway due to fear of vandalism now.  These incidents are for the most part isolated and Alex is right, our town remains small, quaint, and for the most part safe to walk anytime, unless you’re walking on those sidewalks that haven’t had the ice scraped yet!!!!

we bother no one in our neighborhood and my van as well as our other car was hit. my van with eggs and the car with fastfood. the police blotter doesnt tell all. i have had a battery stolen from my camper and knobs stolen off our grill. i reported both. neither was listed in their blotter. stewartstown is laid back, nice for adults but very boring for kids. theres nothing for them to do. when they are bored with notta to do guess what happens! they get in trouble or start it. it seems egging , smashing mail boxes and general vandelism is very common here. i think bordom has taken its toll. we have places for kids to go, now we (the adults) need to make things happen for them. if not they will find other ways to get their kicks. which contributes to vandalism. i dj and have agreed to d j for the kids at the community center once a week. heres my offer again! anyone interested?  feel free to contact me. it may save a window in your car!  rolleyes

I think whether adults give them something to do or not they will probably continue to vandalize just because they can.  I may be wrong, but just a guess.  Anyhow, as far as I know there are no police on duty certain times of the week.
Are these things happening during those times?

We came from Northern VA, too.  (I couldn’t sleep the first week here, it was so quiet).  I agree that vandalism stinks, but that is life.  If vandalism is the least of your worries, be very, very happy.  Stewartstown seems like a warm cozy community, at least in the last 4 months since we have been here (despite the freaking freezing cold!).  Just wondering what everyone does for fun or entertainment.  Seems like vandalism is directly proportionate to the boredom level.  Anyways, thats it.  :o :o

Well, there are a handful of resteruants and 3 or so video stores between Stewartstown, Shrewsbury and New Freedom. Then there are the seasonal events like the Vol. Fire Co. fair and the 4th parade.  But if you are looking for more than that, just head to Baltimore or York.
