I’m in need of full-time infant care beginning Apr 28. Any recommendations for the local area Stewartstown/Shrewsbury/New Freedom licensed/non-licensed would be greatly appreciated. We have already checked into local large centers. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I guess that is another welcome to Stewartstown then. I guess we all can go back to this 1950’s mentality and just shut up and color and put on our happy face and not say anything. I’m gathering thats what alot of folks around here do.  Just because I disagree with how the police give citations for petty offenses has nothing to do with daycare. Who are you and why are you so normal? Sorry, I take offense for being called a “strange bird”. Maybe because I’m from the city and expand my way of thinking beyond the borough. And if you live a couple blocks away from the borough automatically your not “one of us” and your those evil people that live blocks away. I’m a law abiding citizen, and have been for all of my life and I do have the problem with the local police department giving petty citations to local residents. It just paints a picture that they are desperate for money and can’t find true criminals. I would rather them be eating donuts and drinking coffee then penalizing law abiding citizens that are just trying to get home at 11 pm at night when there is no one in sight. I guess I’m strange for that?

This is America and, the last time I checked, Katy is allowed to criticize the police force AND ask for help finding child care.

Katy, YOU are not the strange bird.

Back to the topic, Katy, lol, if you go on southeasterns website (another crazy topic, lol) http://www.sesdweb.net/sesd/site/default.asp
they have a list of people on the stewartstown elem. site.  licensed and non.

Not sure how picky you are, i was crazy when i looked into “interviewing” daycare people, but I have some private numbers I will look up and PM to you when i get to work.

Hope this helps!

Dear Stephen,

Regarding your response: Thank you;

“This is America and, the last time I checked, Katy is allowed to criticize the police force AND ask for help finding child care.

Katy, YOU are not the strange bird.”

My response:

I’m glad that you recognize Americans still have a constitutional right to express ourselves gracefully rather than making pretend everything is perfect and pretty and have no room to voice ourselves. Believe me, I support the police when I believe their actions are correct. I just don’t think its right to especially give new residents petty tickets at 11 pm like going through a stop sign at less than a half of one mile per hour when no one is around. It just painted a picture real quick about the local police department, when after realizing that we were new to the area to give us a ticket anyway instead of a first time warning. I’m sorry. I just think police need to exercise judgement and discretion at times. Okay, I may be wrong about the quota thing, but it is true that the police get their monies from giving such citations, and being that their are other people on the website her talking about the police sitting by the stop sign it really paints a picture.  I have lived in different areas where there was bigger things for the police to investigate, other than minor traffic violations. I guess this part of living in a small town.

All comments are welcome. I will resume back to the original topic of daycare.

Not sure if you’ve looked into Kidsville Junction or not, but I love them.  My son was already in Kindergarten when he went there, but everytime I walked by the newborn room, I couldn’t help but notice how sweet the ladies in there were with all of the babies.  I highly recommend them.  It has been a great place for my son to grow up!  He met his closest friends there and then they all carried on to Stewartstown Elementary together.  I’ve been fortunate enough to secure a job working from home for the past year, so he hasn’t been there this year, and he actually does miss it!  He’s going to their summer camp program this summer and is counting down the days to visit with Miss Sirl and Miss Vanessa!  My son is very picky, and for him to enjoy that place, really says a lot.  I know a newborn is a WHOLE different story, but like I said, the ladies there are really sweet, and I think the price is pretty good too!  Good Luck!

I already checked this list out. Thank you for your response. I’m finding some daycare providers are very selective about what age group they want to take care of. That is okay but they should advertise what age group they are looking for.

Thank you; I am considering them but they don’t have immediate availability.

Just my opinion, Kidsville is GREAT with BABIES, but once they hit around, 3ish, I don’t think the facility itself is especially setup to provide for the ages they offer.  I had my own disgruntles with them, everyone forms their own opinion, the owner is fantastic, Im just not too quick to compliment the staff (Most of them hated their job, and not only did it show, but through small talk, they would complain about each other)
SO, to each his own, there isn’t too many options around this area unfortunately....I do recommend a place off of Main in Shrewsbury diagnol from the fire department, i will try to find a name and number tomorrow.
its so tough!!!!

The place in Shrewsbury is called A Touch of Country Day Care - 235-6023. They have been around for years.  There is also a good place in New Freedom - A child’s Place - 227-9944 - my cousin’s son was there when he was little.

I’m glad there is someone out there that doesn’t think I’m a strange bird! I’m really NOT. Thanks for the welcome. Only one other family has said hello to us so far. I realize people are busy and so are we but it just really upset us greatly to get a ticket from the local pd when we were about 2 blocks away from home, 11 pm at night and no one other than the police officer around. I did learn rather quickly what the local police focus was--giving citations to local residents. In a way that is good because it shows you that the crime must be so low that have to focus on those things (opposed to where I used to live on drug arrests and bigger things) but in one way it is bad because it doesn’t build rapport with new comers and current residents in the community and leaves residents with a certain level of disrespect to those who we should respect in a community. In a small community, you would think that the police would have more sympathy for a first time offender, when in all reality going through the stop sign at 1/2 mph at night when no one else was around doesn’t hurt society. My husband hadn’t had a ticket in 20 years until we came into this community! And after he paid the $100 ticket and thought it was over we get a friendly letter in the mail saying that he now has 3 points on his driving record. Like I said, I would rather have the police officer eating donuts and drinking coffee. I would like to meet our local police department force, but when they don’t take time to return phone calls I kind of got a message real quick that it wasn’t important to them.

I’m glad you found daycare Katy.

Actually, late at night is when you want to be extra careful to obey traffic laws because that’s when the police are out looking for drunk drivers.  Which is not a bad thing.  On the rare occaisions that my hubby & I go out to a club to see our favorite band (Funny Money - plug here) and are coming home at 3 a.m. or later, I drive extra careful.  Even though I am sober, I know that the police will be out looking for the people who are not sober!

Just a word of advice.  Not encouraging any lawbreaking at any time although, I do have a heavy foot mself.  ; )

I sort of figured that they are looking for drunk drivers. Instead, they decided to ticket law abiding citizens my husband, me and my 11 month old son who were just trying to get home after my husband finished working unloading junk into a dumpster all day for the house he is selling. Normal working class citizens just trying to get to and fro…
