I wonder if the people who line up at Starbuck’s everyday complain about the gas prices. smile

GALLON of gas costs $3.69 or more
CUP of Starbuck’s cost $3.69 or more

Or the ones buying a pack of smokes!!

...or the ones drinking imported beer
...or the ones frequently dining out
...or the ones who have Ravens season tickets
...or the ones with 50” plasma tv’s
...or the ones who buy premium bottled water

choices vs. necessity

A big difference between Starbucks, Winston and The Big Oil Companies........Big Oil is the only one getting taxpayer funded government subsidies to the tune of Billions of dollars.  I looked for an exact figure, but it is quite elusive.  I did see that the dems voted to cut the subsidy by over 14 billion dollars this year and it was only a percentage of the payout.  Big Tobacco used to get it, but now they are out of government graces.

Thankfully I don’t drink imported beer (except an occassional Smithwick’s) smile
We do eat out often
Waste of money
Only in my dreams wll I have a 50”
Does Dasani or Aguafina count??

smile

But yeah, it sucks filling up my SUV. Thankfully I have a car that gets ok gas mileage to drive back and forth to work and a motorcycle to ride around this area on those nce days.

I can tell you that my affection for Starbucks has taken a serious hit with the spike in gas.

I have traded Starbucks for Toms coffee… much cheaper. Looking to make more co-op purchases with family and friends to save a little where it makes sense. Cutting back on meals out. Trying to work from home more. Planning out my local shopping trips to make them most efficient and save gas.

Here’s another idea, give tax breaks to companies who encourage telecommuting.  And another note on the oil profits, those earnings reported are before taxes are paid, which are 42%, so half of the number you hear goes right back to Uncle Sam.

I line up for my Starbucks and yes I do complain about gas.  Starbucks (and any other treat) is a choice.  Buying gas?  Not so much a choice!  Just because someone treats themselves to an expensive drink now and then because they enjoy it, and just because someone else may drive a Hummer doesn’t necessarily mean they are rich and could care less about the gas cost.... Jeez.  We are all stuck in the same costly mess.

Agreed Kizzo.  Not that I ever did go to Starbucks EVERYDAY, but I used to go there on average 3 days a week at lunch time.  I have cut back with higher gas prices.

I have actually replaced my Starbucks addiction .... I buy my favorite coffee by the pound at the grocery store and bought a few travel mugs.  Now I take my cheaper coffee with me.  What I’ve discovered is it’s not so much the coffee I was addicted to, but more the ritual.  Starbucks was my little reward for having to get up early and go to work on those lazy days I didn’t want to go - and somewhat of a delay tactic for getting to work.  So now I’m saving money to put into my gas tank!!!  LOLOL

If you have never tried one, I highly recommend a Keurig Brewer.  If you have ever had the little K-Cups in the office where you brew one at a time this is the machine.  The cups are a little costly at about $10 for 25 cups.  BJ’s and Costco carry the brewer with 100 cups for less than $150.  I also found a reusable KCUP that you can brew your favorite coffee in 1 cup at a time.  It is the best.

I was on the Beta test group for Keurig brewers when they first started making home models, and I have been hooked ever since!

We had one of those and it was great.  But we gave it to a friend, because we each drink more than a cup.  So we were making a whole pots worth of cups.  But if you’re the lone coffee drinker in the house or you just enjoy one cup, it’s definitely worth checking out.  (BTW, we got ours free - my mother-in-law was demonstrating them and got it when she was done - I don’t know if I would’ve paid that much for it.....)

I practically begged them to make a home machine about 7 years ago.  They did not even have one on the drawing board, but they promised that I could be a tester when they went into production.  Sure enough, they actually called me and asked me to join the test team.  Being an IT guy, I found it humorous that they referred to it as Beta testing as well.  My machine is a dinosaur compared to the new ones that they are making.

I’m used to Beta testing games, MMORPG’s when I have time anymore smile

Flavia is another company like Keurig, I’ve looked at both the products in the past for the workplace options.

Where can I Beta Test hot wings, pizza or lobster?  hehe
