I wanted to spread the work that the Eureka Volunteer Fire Company has a great program for youths age 14-16 years old. A great many of you might not be aware of this program. Just to give you some insight on it. My son joined the program several months ago, the jr firefighter program gives the youths a sense of responsibility, maturity, community involvement and lifesaving skills. The senior firefighters and EMT’s give a lot of time working with the youths. I can’t begin to say enough about this program and the fact that the people in the southeastern district are fortunate enough to have it. If anyone has or knows of a responsible youth age 14-16 this would be a great program for them and an opportunity for them to help their community and get service hours for their school requirements. They meet every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm. If you want to know more about this program please contact the Eureka Volunteer Fire Co. They are a fantastic group!!!!

The number for the station is 717-993-6180 or you can stop in. Best times to find the volunteers would be in the evenings, especially on Wednesday evenings.

As one of the Junior Advisors I would like to thank “bjw” for his glowing write-up of our Junior program. We train hard and take this seriously but we also try to make it fun.

Here is an example of some of the things our Juniors have learned:
- Proper use and care of turn out gear
- How to use an air pack safely
- Search and rescue techniques
- Fire ground support (hoses, ladders, tools, etc)
- Vehicle rescue
- CPR, First Aid, Red Cross Emergency Responder certification
- Ambulance operations
- Assisting at mass casualty incidents with triage and treatment
- Safe operations at controlled burns, extinguishers, hose operations

We hope to see you out there!
