Kizzo - 12 May 2008 10:12 AM My Three Sons is a decent local establishment - they have another location(s) as well. I LOVE, LOVE LOVE their pizza.
Why in the world would the original poster think that asking to see ID from someone would be a reason to NOT go to that establishment? Duh!
I’m ALWAYS happy whenever I’m asked to see my ID when paying on credit. It makes good sense for me and it’s good sense for the business as well.
As the orginal poster, I don’t mind providing ID when presenting a credit card for the transaction as part of the transcation.
I do mind being asked for it after the transcation has been completed. It was the owner’s response that set me off. Explaining Bad checks to me
had nothing to do with what I was discussing. It is not good business sense to insult your customers, they might never come back as in this case.

cejcala - 12 May 2008 08:50 AM chrisjames_71 - 12 May 2008 05:32 AM CHIPMAGICINC - 11 May 2008 08:43 PM Plus when some one asks to see my ID I thank them for taking the time to protect me from fraudulant use of my card.

If you were using a bank card, and using it as a debit card, there is some sort of built in protection in needing to know the pin number. But banks haven’t gotten on board with that security system, so the next best thing is to hope the place you are using your card at asks for id. If it is a bank card or credit card, someone can take either, use it as a charge card, and get away with everything. They could have still cancelled the transaction if everything didn’t match up. I really don’t understand how you don’t feel grateful, instead of insulted. ???????????
It was more of an order effect than anything else and the manager’s response.
I paid the bill, the card was taken and scaned. The Card was returned to table and I placed back in my wallet. I was filling out the tip
when, the waitstaff walked over and asked for ID. I showed my PA DL. She looked at it and walked away. Note, she had nothing to compare it against.
The bill/paperwork was in my hands, the card was in my wallet. All she knew is that I was a licensed driver in PA.
I tried to explain this to the owner, all he wanted to talk about was bad checks and how I should be happy he was checking.
So, I will not be back. Likewise, I can not understand why you feel grateful instead of insulted!

west - 12 May 2008 01:21 PM bravo to you , my three sons. thank you for looking out for the people in your community. let us all support the local guy and and not be so petty or soon we will have nothing but national chains in our neighborhood (and i would truly miss your fantastic seafood pitas and mixed green salads!)
I like some national chains! Just because someone is local does not automatically make it a great service. I try and support local business when I can. I also try and support state based (over other states), and national (over international) based business. However, I will stick to my word and avoid a business that does not treat me in the way that I want to be treated. My action to avoid a business is not petty, it is my choice.

I agree with your point of view. The LAST time I visited that restaurant, I was insulted by the cook. They served my daughter sour creme of crab soup. When I told the waitress about it, she said “ I told him last night it was sour!” Then the cook came out to argue the point with me saying it was not sour and I was tasting a spice. All three people at our table tasted the soup and it was spoiled. He did not offer an apology for the soup and walked away from our table with a very large attitude. I really did not appreciate being treated in such a rude manner. After all, our business does pay their bills. I have not been back since...that was 2 years ago.

I remember that Monty Python routine!!! John Cleese played the cook. He was hilarious!!

West,
Did you realize your posts sound like commercials?
fantastic seafood pitas and mixed green salads!
loved the spinach ravioli and the gnocchi
Coincidence? Might you somehow be involved with MTS?
Anyway, I do love the pizza, I hear others rave about the pita’s all the time. I rarely go and sit down as I’ve not had spectacular service experiences there, I have nothing negative to say about the food though, seems to have improved. You’ll find that not everyone thinks the national chains are an evil bad thing, and it’s not exactly like they are driving out the numerous chinese/pizza/sub places over in Shrewsbury, much less any in Stewartstown. And I’ve never been asked for ID, and I pay with a credit card all the time, so I wouldn’t call asking for ID looking out for the community.
Personally, I still don’t understand why she took the ID, I thought there would have been nothing to compare it to as the original poster said?

Devil’s advocate here - Perhaps the waitress was new and was asked after the transaction if she had checked his ID. If she had not, maybe she took it upon herself to check it after the fact to cover her butt..... Some of the wait staff are young, first jobs, etc.
I still would rather have my ID checked. It does no harm and I would NEVER feel insulted.
Zort- I understand the manager’s tone may have been off - that would have pissed me off, but not having my ID checked.
I also don’t understand why you’d want to attempt to ruin their decent reputation (and somewhat fine food) for such a silly incident. It is your perogative though I suppose. Good luck with other local establishments. We have some decent ones.

I completely understand that the staff might be first job, young, etc… Hence, the reason that I wanted to speak to the manager.
As I noted in the orginal post, The food was OK (not great, not bad). I am not attempting to ruin anything, Those were the owner’s words not mine. I have lived here for over 7 years now. I have visted every establishment around. I have had good and bad results around with the food (every place can have a bad day).
The reason for the post was the way in which it was handled. As noted in the orginal post, I would not be posting if he said something that wasn’t confrontational about my thoughts (ie. bad checks etc..). BTW, customer service and thoughts held by custsomers are not “silly” (I would not have posted otherwise).
End result, his actions cost him about 2000$ a year in business. The bright spot is that other local places will get the 2000$.

I have never had a bad experience at My Three Sons, in fact only good experiences.
The staff is great, friendly & will try to do anything to keep you happy.
The food is good, plentiful, and always served in a timely manner.
Their pizza deal (lge) is the best in town---both in price & taste. Love their fried oysters too.
They are a local establishment with local ties to the community.
If you haven’t tried them out, then you need too. I’ll be back on Friday night for their pizza special.

I just wish they would follow ordinance with regard to the illuminated sign like they were instructed to by Council. It is considered a temporary sign, and as such Zoning Ordinance states it can be up for 30 days 1x per year or 15 days 2x per year. It’s to be used for special events only, not 24/7 advertising. I’m glad to see they’ve gotten better on food and service as some have stated, I think they’ve been a nice addition to the community here, I just wish they would act like part of the community and follow the ordinance that has already been explained to them in detail at multiple council meetings. I’m really unsure why they feel they are exempt from the rules, but the sign has been up for well over a month.

Can the Borough penalize/fine them? Sometimes you just don’t get through to people until you hit them in the wallet.
Is it because the sign is illuminated? Just curious, since I don’t know the ordnance and I know Messina’s routinely has a non-illuminated sign on the corner.
