No problems with AT&T;wireless Friday PM, but I was attacked by a horde of savage emoticons.

Yes, I was receiving an unable to complete calls when dialing, and when I was being called their phones rolled to dead air vs my voice mail. I was receiving my emails however during that time on my Blackberry. All during that time frame with AT&T;.

In case you didnt see, AT&T;is going to offer credits on your bill on a case by case basis.  Personally I have four phones and two businesses on AT&T;wireless.  I am going to see if I can squeeze any money from them.

AT&T;Customers May Receive Credit On Phone Bill

POSTED: 11:13 pm EDT June 23, 2008
UPDATED: 11:20 pm EDT June 23, 2008

Last Friday, AT&T;cell phone customers in Lancaster, Adams and York counties lost their cell service for most of the day.

Earlier in June, a larger service outage hit Delaware, southern New Jersey, Wilkes-Barre and here in the Susquehanna Valley.

In both cases, fiber lines were cut.

News 8 On Your Side has learned that AT&T;customers may be able to get a credit on their bill—but only if you ask for it.

News 8 contacted AT&T;Cellular’s corporate offices and asked what they were doing for customers. A company spokeswoman said, “We will handle requests for credits on a case-by-case basis.”

To make that request, you can reach AT&T;customer service by dialing 611 on your cell phone. There is also a link in the “Hot Links” section on the main page.

If you do call and request a credit, you may want to remember the dates of the service outages were June 9 and June 20.

It only takes about 2 minutes to call in.  They take your monthly fee and divide that by 30 days in a month, and times it by how many days you were without service.  For me it was 1.99 times 2 days, so I got $4.00 credit.  It doesn’t matter how many phones are on a line- just your monthly service contract amount.

Well there’s a gallon of gas for your inconvenience.

Thought you might like to know that I saw this on WGAL Tuesday Noon news. It was recommended that if you are refused credit the first time call back again and get another person and possibly call back 3 or 4 times until you get someone who will give you credit.  smile

Any Verizon users outside of town getting better reception today? I’m getting 3-4 bars for both EV and 1X where normally I get 0-2 bars of EITHER EV or 1X.  Hoping this is permanent and not just a fluke.

Honestly, I use my cell about 5 times a month. I had no idea it was out until checking the news.

Verizon Reception - I still have 0 to 2 bars in Stewartstown. I live in Bailey Springs and can’t get reception in some rooms of my condo with Verizon.  My 2 year plan is up this month and I’m going to switch to AT&T;which seems best around Stewartstown.

I think everyone has similar experiences. I have AT&T;personal and Verizon for work. Bars on both change with each room, sunlight, clouds, moon phase, etc. Its never consistent. The best I ever had was with Cingular, but it went to hell in a handbasket when AT&T;took over officially. Not sure why, you would figure its the same equipment. Perhaps when another 10,000 people move to southern York Co, another dozen chains open and 851 becomes double lanes in each direction (like 24 in BelAir) with a few more stop lights the service will be consistent. grin

Re: Verizon cell service (or lack of) in Stewartstown.
After several failed attempts to get information on a future Verizon cell tower for Stewartstown, I went thru my corporate Verizon rep.
After a week of waiting, I got a reply from the Verizon Manager of System Performance in Phila.
His response was that they are aware of the poor service in our area but that Verizon will not be adding a cell for Stewartstown in 2008.
He did not have information available for proposed cell locations beyond 2008.
So I’m switching to AT&T;cellular.
