I must have missed the article where fire lanes are now acceptable parking / standing areas. Can someone direct me to the information that states that parking or waiting in a fire lane while “I run into the store for just a moment” or “wait while my wife grabs a quick loaf of bread” or “I run up to the ATM” or “I’m just to f...ing lazy to walk twenty feet” is now a civil driving practice. It’s a small town people. Its very rare that you won’t get the first or second parking space from the door. You’re impeding the smooth and safe flow of traffic.

let me be the first to say (proudly as well), that I am quite lazy , but if I drop someone off at the curb while then run inside, I always go park it and wait or drive around the lot. I don’t use the ATM either.
Ok, so I am really not lazy, I just “lack motivation”
OOOOHHHHH - one of my biggest pet peeves. It is illegal to park in a fire lane. Period. I’ve been up to the Wine & Spirits store in Shrewsbury and cars are parked in the fire lane in front of the wine store.... Um… the parking places are only another 5 feet away............ and there’s usually one open right in front of the door. Jeez!

I saw that too when I took my kids in Game Stop the other day. Just when we was getting ready to step off the sidewalk to go to my car, somebody in a white Lexus pulled up right in front of us to get as close to the door as possible. There was plenty of parking spots for them to park.

HOW ABOUT THESE FOR PET PEEVES...carts left just anywhere in the parking lot, especially when they take up a parking place..."express" check-out “10 items or less” and the person has 30 or 40 items...or how about the guy who pumps his gas and walks in to the store to pay and ‘pick up a few things’, leaving his car at the pump with 3 or 4 people in line

That last one is my biggest pet peeve!! Especially when there are many cars waiting to gas up!!
How about the people who park diagonally across 2 parking spaces in a lot where there are no spaces? We had a guy like that when I lived in an apartment 10 years ago. My neighbors and I used to pile garbage up in front of his car, take his valve stems, and my neighbor superglued his door shut. Finally someone got him towed and he stopped doing it, but it took a year for him to get the hint.
Usually this is someone with an expensive car buying more than he can afford to act like a big shot.

interesting concept, commit crimes worse than double parking, so he can get the hint to not do it anymore. thankfully you weren’t caught
This bothers me quite a bit. I just dont know what I can do about it. I have begun taking pictures of the car and plates and exact location. I am not sure what can be done with them, or even if anyone would. Those and the handicapped spaces that people park in because they are going to ‘just be there a minute.’
It really irks me too… would it help at all to mention it to the managers of the stores? Or put a bug in the ear of local or state law enforcement? I’m sure they have bigger problems to take care of though.
The initial post was due a woman in a dark colored Navigator who had parked in front of Saubels right by the cart ramp to wait for her daughter. Traffic had to form a single lane to get around her and people had to manuever their carts to get past her. My disapproving look was met with a mocking lifting of her lips into a smile and a mouthing of the words “be happy” as she pulled in front of me to leave.
My post was just a rant. We all know that there is little that can be done to stop people like this. Their level of self absorbtion and sense of entitlement won’t be lessened by public censure. I’m sure they believe that 10 items or less doesn’t apply to them, as so much simple civil behavior does not as well.
But isn’t the “cart ramp” the same thing as the handicap ramp there? Would she have sneered at a person in a wheel chair who couldn’t get up the ramp she was blocking (probably). Maybe if someone mentioned it to the manager at Shurfine/Saubel he could have the cart dude ask people to move along when he notices this happening? Next time I get groceries I will be sure to mention it at the office.
I used to work at a grocery store (put myself thru college) years ago. Most times, you could politely ask and the people would just ‘politely’ ignore you. Unless there is a cop around to give them a ticket, they could care less.
Taking pictures of the vehicles and their plates. OMG, you should really get a hobby like golf or stamp collecting, something to occupy yourself.
I have pulled up in front of various stores to drop off the wife to run in, and I will sit there waiting, that is unless I am impeding traffic, then I pull around the side. And I would never park in front of the ramp. I’d like to think that most folks have that sort of common courtesy. But as with everything, there are a few that do not, and unfortunately, that few seems to be increasing.
Becareful out there snapping pictures of people. You may run into someone who thinks you are up to no good.
