I think the new Sprint cell on the tower is working also.

I’ve had good luck all along with verizon cell in this area. Their phone and DSL leaves much to be desired though. I’m glad they are continuing to take care of their cell customers!

From my understanding, that is Sprint’s tower (the new one).  Maybe Verizon is sharing it?  We noticed this morning that our reception was better.  Which is funny, because last night we were talking about switching to something that gave us more service at home.

The new tower is owned by a company that specializes in building and maintaining cell towers.
They pay about $1,000 per month in rent to HARP which goes into our recreation budget.
Sprint and Verizon both lease space from that company for their cell antennas and equipment.

Now, if something like that would come to the outskirts of Fawn Grove...that would be wonderful. We can’t even get high speed internet out here in the country. We have always needed satellite, because with an antenna, we have always gotten just 2 channels and they were such a mess you did more listening than watching! I’m not too far from Maze Quest (just to give an idea of my location). If someone else is getting some of these services...let me know your secret. LOL

I live in FG and have had high speed internet for at least 2 years. Its really based on where you are located, sadly. I get 2 bars, if I hold my head just right, in Fawn. I wish we’d get an AT&T;tower though, so I can dump verison wireless, frikin hate them and only have them cause i moved back to Fawn. Had AT&T;previously..

Maze Quest had offered high-speed internet, M&T;Wireless (I think), a couple of years ago. The only catch was that you had to be in line-of-site with their corn silos. I used them with good results until cable offered internet. If you look in to it, go to Maze Quest and ask for Hugh. As far as cell phones, Verizon is the only carrier that works for me in this area (I’m also very near to Maze Quest).

M&T;wireless is now part of Double Dog communications the way I understand it, which as Eastwood mentioned, has to be line of sight. We’ve been double dog for about 4 months now and so far it’s been great. We’re not line of sight to Maize Quest but we are to the antenna they have on Mountain Road. So far it’s typically been 4-5 times faster than advertised, probably even faster than the Suscom cable internet we had at our last house 4 years ago. Much better than the Hughesnet (not Hugh’s net, lol) we had here before - $60/month for dial-up speed+satellite latency...uhh no.

I am thinking of getting ATT wireless because I like the rollover minutes.

Anyone in the borough or the station have ATT?

I have had ATT wireless for a long time in the borough and it works well for me.  The one drawback right now is that they still haven’t upgraded our tower to 3G.  I’ve been thinking of writing them to let them know they’re about to be trounced by Verizon and Sprint!  Even MD Line has 3G.

I believe the AT&T;tower in town supports ‘Edge’ which is another 3G type of network.

Edge is not 3G. It is substantially slower. It is older technology. AT&T;around this area sucks. It even sucks all along 83 from Hunt Valley north.

I have noticed problems with ATT dropping sometimes while going up 83 too.  Not sure how Verizon does with that.  I hear east of town out towards Fawn Grove and Delta can be bad with ATT too.  As far as I know Stewartstown has always been the main weakness when using Verizon.  Now that Verizon has a new tower it may be the best choice.

Yes, Edge is the old and 3G is the new.  3G has been spreading out from Baltimore and York so we’re sandwiched in the middle.  Surprised they didn’t upgrade Shrewsbury and surrounding areas sooner.  They’re doing other areas with fewer people just because they’re closer to one of the bigger cities.

I have Verizon EVDO through Millenicom. With an amp and inside antenna I get about 1.2 Mb download speeds max. It’s not great, but beats Wild Blue by far. Since Verizon has forced them to hold us to 5 Gb/mo caps they are switching me to Sprint EVDO. I’ll soon see if there is a difference.

Thanks for clarifying that.
