Other than cutting the piano in a few pieces and putting it out for the trash, which might be fun, I like demolition smile does anyone know of a charity or organization that could use an upright piano?

You might want to put an ad up on Craigslist.org or in stores… It might be easier to sell it to a family with kids learning to play piano - that’s how we got ours.  There’s about an old piano per room already at the Presbyterian church smile

If you do end up demolishing it, I’ll take the keys for an art project.

Seriously, if anyone has any ideas of where a 100+ year old upright piano in good condition could go I would love to know.  It is taking up space in a spare bedroom that we would like to free up, but it is not something to put out with the trash or donate to someplace that wants a junker for kids to pound on.  I think we may advertise it for sale eventually.  We had so much trouble getting it into the bedroom that we don’t want to paint the hall until after we get it out of there <LOL>.

Craigslist or freecycle might be the next step.  too bad it’s not easy to set out on the front lawn with a free sign on it.  Thanks all.

Please don’t trash it - I’m sure someone out there would love to have it.  Years ago someone gave me a similar piano (very old, upright).  I took a photo of it and hung it up at work and just wrote “best offer” on it.  I ended up getting $200 for it and the gentleman who purchased it was very happy - he used to play piano as a stress reliever and although the piano was out of tune and old, it still served the purpose of relieving stress.

The old uprights like that unfortunately don’t bring alot. I got mine for free about 10 years ago and it even has some engraving on the inside of the lid - something like “Made special for exhibition at the Stewartstown Fair”. It’s close to in tune with itself (definately not A440) but otherwise plays better than most uprights of it’s age.

I’d say craigslist for free if you need to be rid of it. Downside is it seems like even if you list something like that on Craigslist for $1 someone will still want to lowball you, but usually not until after a Nigerian scammer wants to have his accountant be in touch with you. But free makes stuff go away real fast, lol.
