The South Eastern School District Community Extra Curricular Committee Meeting will be January 25, 2010 at the Administration Building in Fawn Grove at 6:30pm. On the agenda for this meeting is the presentation of the proposed upgrades to the football field which will include lights. Please try to attend and show your support!
Awesome, I hope all the proposed upgrades pass the vote. That school really needs to improve the facility and it will certainly benefit the student body.
What will be provided at the meeting are the results of the feasibility study regarding the possible renovation of one of two athletic field sites. The field where the track is one and the current foorball field (I think) is the other. At this meeting the Board will discuss the results, but will not vote on it. They may decide to make a recommendation to the full school board (not all members attend committee meetings) or they may wish to discuss it further. No votes are taken at Committee meetings, only at School Board Meetings.
Considering that the current facilities are so far out of code that they would be a complete rebuild (even if they could get a permit to build that close to the road) I hope they seriously consider building at the current track.
Is there any way to see the proposed improvements before the meeting, so that the community might have time to think of questions to ask? Or if someone couldn’t make the meeting, they might be able to send a comment to a committe member prior to the meeting?
Can you spell transparency ? Can the football team? How many of you wanted expensive pianos? This is not Texas. Don’t expect a TV result for your student athlete. For the past 40 years (at least) sports have played second string to education. The way is the way it should be. No one wins when a student is given ‘passes’ and ‘special considerations’ - even ‘private tutoring’, and superior playing facilities (wake up parents! If junior can run faster and jump higher, but can’t spell or do rudimentary math, he will fall into the bottom of the barrel where he or she will have to fall back on intelligence and ability to survive). If so that talented athlete should be an excelling student, and great. But don’t expect taxes to pay for junior’s play time. Pay more attention to the academics and the student athletes don’t end up like some of the criminal pro athletes.

No. The feasibility study will be presented at the Committee meeting. As far as I know, this will be the first time the Committee members hear it.
Lights would be awesome! Both my kids will be out of school as of June of this year, but I still support anything that betters the school and the kids’ school experience!
Caroline… huh? This meeting has virtually nothing to do with anything that you posted. Everything is above board and everyone involved is looking out for the best interest of the students. Nobody here is dumb enough to think that we are going to build or even need a huge Taj Mahal sports complex. Don’t belittle people when you haven’t even seen the study or the plans. Knocking our football players doesn’t seem to mesh much with your lovely, caring demeanor either. How about you play nice with our kids and students. Many of the guys on the team are quite bright. AND to add to that, they are not the only ones who will benefit from a safer, nicer playing facility.
The study is being presented and anyone who strongly feels that things should move forward needs to show up to support the cause. Good luck boosters!
Caroline ... all I have to say is WOW! Got a chip on your shoulder ‘bout somethin?? The KD athletes are held to a higher expectation than the non-athletes. If they are failing or as you put it “can’t read” they are not allowed to participate until they bring their grades up. Your post made absolutley no sense with this topic! I for one am glad to see KD wanting to make some changes. Instead of people on this forum constantley bad mouthing things why don’t you get ALL of the facts first. Invisible user.. great to hear some positive support!
I did not see this post until now. Any idea how the meeting went?
Caroline, BTW, as far as HS football goes, there is not that big difference between PA and TX. Now there is here at KD because there are a large amount of ex-MD folks who are unfamiliar with our traditions (no offense intended to all ex-MD’ers) . . . but don’t make blanket statements you cannot support. The difference between PA and TX is that they have a lot more industry than us so more $$$ could go into their facilities. This is the only part of the state I have ever lived in when there were not at least two HS football games on television on a Friday night during footbal season. Our championship games are on statewide TV viewed by millions of people. Yes accedemics are more important than athletics in schools but my head is more important than my left arm. That does not mean I am going to chop off left arm. I’ve gone to games where there were still people standing in line close to half time to get in. In most areas across the state this is where the district ‘meets’ the community. Half time is when folks talk about community issues. If you see no benefit, don’t lay it on the kids if there is a lack of sense of community and the district does not want to take advantage of an opportunity to open up to the residents of the district.
The meeting was very eye opening!! The presentation was top notch, the gentleman from the firm was very professional and was able to answer any questions asked. There will be another meeting on Feburary 16th (not sure on time, but will get back to you on that) to talk about the improvements and the public is encouraged to come and ask questions and show their support.
Quite a bit of info was provided on the two locations. To upgrade the current footbal field would cost between $3.4 million and $3.8 million and 30’ of the practice field would be lost. To install a new stadium on the track field would cost between $2,977,500 and $3.2 million. These figures include the basics: Grandstands, toilets, concession, pressbox, lights, water and sewer lines, sound system, ticket booth, scoreboard, flag pole, electric and paving. There were a list of options: artificial turf (I think was an additional $800k), locker rooms, separate restrooms for the teams. etc.
